According to LD logic this makes Labour the main challengers at the up-coming by-election and the LDs should therefore stand down and not campaign

Re Long Ashton - I'm very surprised there are no candidates, as it is a fairly political (with a small p) village (or small commuter town these days) - lots of local issues and initiatives, and quite a vibrant community.

One of many reasons Labour has to fight the upcoming parliamentary by-election properly… Well it's one. I'm struggling to see 'many' as 1) the ship as to who the main challengers are has disappeared into the sunset and it's not you, and 2) it's not an upcoming by-election, it's a current one, and if you're not treating it that way to say you're starting behind is an understatement...

The Long Ashton vacancy has been around a while - they've tried to hold it several times already and had no nominations.

Not touchy at all! Just an observation Clearly you are! Dislike of having your party's tactics thrown back at you? Well, we do recall the whinging of the Labour camp in N Shropshire as they tried desperately to stop us winning. I had an interesting discussion with a postie as I was delivering leaflets in a sleepy village of huge houses on the eve of poll. He had just read the Labour leaflet (with bar charts of recent national opinion polls btw! LOL) delivered just before, and asked me why we were splitting the vote since Labour were the challengers.. I just said I was 100% sure Labour would come a poor third...
