The 2011 census statistics for housing tenure in Handforth ward have it as slightly less than 60% owner-occupied and as 27% social rented, which is a higher figure than all bar one ward in Stockport and all but 3 in Trafford. Assuming that the social housing is overwhelmingly concentrated in the two overspill estates, that suggests limited gentrification.

New vacancy in Weymouth Town Council in the Preston Ward, departee is David Mannings (Lib Dem). I would hope we will find a candidate and I would expect a partisan contest. This will make 2 by elections for Weymouth TC on May 6th

What is a "partisan" contest? (When is a contest not partisan?) When it's only contested by Independent candidates? Indeed, town council contests can often be non-partisan if only independents stand. Weymouth Town Council however is partisanly organized.

I see that as part of the abolition of the Northamptonshire districts, the borough of Northampton is being parished. Some outlying bits of the borough were already parished and the remainder is going to be divided up into three new parish councils: - Far Cotton and Delapré - covering those bits of the Delapré and Briar Hill ward which aren't already parished
- Kingsthorpe - covering Kingsthorpe, St. Davids, Sunnyside, Obelisk and Spring Park wards
- Northampton - covering the remainder of the borough
Until the May elections the existing borough councillors seem to have been appointed as Town Councillors, so I would imagine that these are likely to be politically contested elections. Northampton would be one of the largest (quite possibly the largest) parishes in the country.

I believe the term is "town charter trustees" (I served as one in the changeover from Crewe & Nantwich BC to Cheshire East UA/Crewe TC). Primary function was to keep the thieving hands of Cheshire East off assets that could otherwise be retained in the Crewe area.

I think charter trustees are largely now in the mists of history (and anyway had to be for the whole of a previous authority).

Wikipedia (yes, I know) says they were appointed as recently as 2019 for Bournemouth, Poole and Taunton. So hardly the mists of history.

I certainly remember seeing something in the local paper to that effect at the time re: Bournemouth and Poole. In Christchurch they were orf course not needed due to a town council being immediatly created.

To pick up the recent discussion, the Government has encouraged the total parishing of Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire, as the introduction of unitary local government has increased the gap between citizens on the ground and the number of elected representatives.
West Northamptonshire will be totally parished with the introduction of several parishes in the Northampton area. North Northamptonshire will also be totally parished with the introduction of new parish (town) councils in Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough.
Buckinghamshire is already totally parished with the exception of High Wycombe. No changes are planned here, with charter trustees continuing in High Wycombe.

Handforth parish to be abolished and merged into Wilmslow ?
The next stage in the Handforth Parish Council saga will fall this afternoon (26 February), at the meeting of Cheshire East's Community Governance Review Sub-Committee, which is live-streaming from 2 pm.
Cheshire West and Chester conducted a comprehensive review of all its parishes, resulting in major mergers, abolitions and reorganisations, which was implemented for the parish council elections in 2015.
Cheshire East decided in 2018 to conduct a similar comprehensive review of all its parishes after the 2019 elections, with a view to completing and implementing the review in time for the 2023 elections.
After setting up the process and timetable, they undertook a pre-review consultation survey, which was reported to the Community Governance Review Sub-Committee on 6 March 2020. Although the reports to this meeting amounted to 106 pages, the meeting apparently took only 36 minutes, commencing at 2 pm and ending at 2.36 pm. There were several pre-review consultation responses from Handforth, variously drawing attention to the considerable planned increase in housing and population for Handforth, the need for more than the existing 7 members to cope with the anticipated growth of electorate and a comment that the work of the parish council has often been marred by factional infighting - this was back in March 2020.
Following this meeting, Cheshire East have held 6 member workshops alongside the officer working party. Last week, nearly 12 months later, Cheshire East published their draft proposals for parish reorganisation across the district, which will be considered this afternoon, prior to going out for formal consultation. The proposal is that the parishes of Handforth and Chorley will be merged into Wilmslow. The enlarged Wilmslow Town Council will have 20 members, but Handforth will become a single parish ward with only 4 members.
The next meeting of Handforth Parish Council should be quite lively, with the warring councillors considering their own abolition.
The Handforth budget papers for 2021-22 show that the Handforth parish clerk's annual salary is £25,000, with a further £17,000 budgeted for oncosts. Will an enlarged Wilmslow town council absorb this cost and increase its personnel establishment?
One imagines that the Cheshire Association of Local Councils (CHALC) has been a significant consultee during the development of these draft proposals. Is this Jackie Weaver's final revenge?

Although the Government has by order postponed the elections due on 6 May in Cumbria, North Yorkshire and Somerset, they have not postponed the parish council elections falling due in Carlisle, South Lakeland and Craven. Most of these are small parishes, which are likely to be Independent and uncontested.
There are elections, however, for Ulverston town council, the second town of South Lakeland, which was exclusively contested in 2016 by the four major political parties and for two of the larger parishes in Carlisle, Brampton and Wetheral.

I'm fairly certain I've been erroneously canvassed in Swanage North ward before, back when Purbeck District Council existed and had partial renewal. I was on holiday in the springtime and there were no local elections in my area that year.

Handforth Parish Council
A major element in the fracas at Handforth was the parish clerk declaring one of the seats vacant, due to non-attendance.
Cheshire East has called the parish by-election due in Handforth (West ward) for 6 May 2021.
