What on Earth happened to cause that? Not sure - there are some signs of drama on the village Facebook group but I'm not sure of the details.

Since the vacancies cannot be filled the Council cannot operate? Does this mean that the District Council can appoint some new members?

Lyme Regis Town Council has a new vacancy. I understand the local branch are ready for it and a by election is likely to be called. Of the last two by elections, one was contested (we won) and one was unopposed.

I'm sure it's very sad, but is it really worthy of note on here?

I'm sure it's very sad, but is it really worthy of note on here? Yes because this is a thread about vacancies for parish councils (for which Community councils are the Welsh equivalent). Harry made no mention of whether it was sad or not. This is not the Rest in Peace thread

You may remember some time ago I noted that on my former council (Llansantffraed) a member of the community council had been given a ten week suspended sentence for "wanton and furious driving" with the father of the children affected furious that she was able to keep her seat? Well, she didn't:
(Source: Llansantffraed Community Council Agenda : January 2021) * To note the resignation of Councillor Caryl Vaughan and to consider proceeding with the procedure for filling the vacant seat
A notice has now been published by the county council and the invitation for ten electors to write causing a by-election has now been issued.

I shall certainly give the idea due consideration (if the required ten electors request one and a date is formally announced)

Pete is right and I was wrong, but I still can't see much point in recording non-political vacancies on obscure parish/community councils.

I said "non-political". Who cares if some independent councillor for some parish no one outside the parish has ever heard of (and the vast majority of parish councils have members who are elected unopposed with no party label) resigns/dies/is disqualified? If all of these were recorded this would be the longest thread on the forum - and the most boring.

Of the last two by elections, one was contested (we won) and one was unopposed. I can now confirm that a by election has been called. There are currently five town council by elections in Dorset scheduled for May: Weymouth, Portland, Ferndown, Shaftesbury and Lyme Regis.
