Rick Muir (Hackney Downs) and Louisa Thomson (Stoke Newington) both Labour resign from Hackney council. Presumably there will be 2 by-elections on 5 May.

Hyndburn Council have put Judith Addison (Immanuel) back on the website. Apparently she remains a fully functioning member of the Conservative Group - and administrative errors on the website have been corrected.

I thought I noticed an Election Notice listing Immanuel on the May 5th 2016 list of wards. When I checked later I could find no such Notice. Looks like a very embarrassing Horlicks by the Council. |

Iain Angus MacDonald (Oban North and Lorn, Argyll and Bute) has today announced his resignation... Jesus Christ, not again. I'm running out of things to say about that ward. Haven't read your previous posts, but try this: The promenade running north from Oban town centre is possibly the best urban location in the UK to watch the sun setting. |

Andy Lang , Conservative councillor for Tormohun ward on Torbay UA has resigned Looking at Andrew Teale's data site this had a very close and mixed result last May: www.andrewteale.me.uk/pdf/2015/torbay15.pdfUntil the latest resignation it was two Tory and one LibDem. With the all-up behind them, all the parties will probably be focussing here in May (Labour even won this in 2011). Then looking at the Mayoral results they were surprisingly close considering that LibDems lost the Westminster seat. One wonders after Sanders' stellar by-election win last November whether he might run for Mayor in 2019 to position himself for the 2020 GE? |

Daniel Jenkins, UKIP Councillor for Staines South & Ashford West on Surrey County Council, has resigned. He unseated the incumbent Conservative in 2013 by 4 votes.

Gosh, he was elected on a 9.9% vote share in 2012 .. surely this is a seat that is up this year anyway! No, Scottish local elections are in 2017 (a consequence of Coalition lenghtening the Westminster term by 1 year, which pushed Holyhood/Welsh Assembly elections by a year, which pushed local Scottish/Welsh local elections by a year). Only the 4th by-election in that seat in this term (and a 5th in 5 years). Looks like he has resigned from SNP but will continue as a councillor sitting as an Independent. |

I understand there are expected to be two byelections on 5 May in Kensington and Chelsea - one is to replace Victoria Borwick MP in Abingdon ward. Don't know where the other one is.

Regarding the confusion in Oban North and Lorn, in the last week Iain Angus MacDonald resigned from the SNP and as a Councillor, while Iain Stewart MacLean has at present only resigned from the SNP and will now be sitting as an Independent. The local SNP have issued a statement calling for his resignation as a Councillor too however...
