He had given up the whip, of course. Is this connected to his well-known problems with the council's senior officers? Yes, he resigns for mental health reasons, claiming than his mental health issues caused him to have a "reckless and self-destructive" behaviour. I suppose it includes him being condemned by a court this summer to pay his previous landlord £4,470 for leaving his former flat in a squalid condition. local press are reporting that an all-party motion was going to council asking him to resign. never heard of that before, was his behaviour that bad ?

Liberal quits Liberals because she is "too liberal". Hmm, maybe. Also note the local Tory leader saying the by election will be between "Chris Grayling's conservatives" and " Jeremy Corbyn's Labour". What's wrong with "David Cameron's Conservatives"?

I have some news that will doubtless bring great cheer to all those who partake in the predictions contest: there are several by-elections in Gwynedd looming. Pwllheli South councillor Bob Wright (Llais) died in September, while in Bangor (Dewi ward) longtime councillor Eddie Dogan (Plaid; was Labour before 2005) has resigned due to ill health after four decades as a councillor on one authority or another (usually at least two). There is also a vacancy in Llanaelhaearn (also Llais incumbent) but don't know the circumstances.

What's wrong with "David Cameron's Conservatives"? Ah. That description wasn't supposed to appear until the revolution had begun. Expect reprisals at dawn.

What's wrong with "David Cameron's Conservatives"? This suggests that the Tories might struggle: mycouncil.surreycc.gov.uk/mgElectionAreaResults.aspx?XXR=0&ID=109&RPID=502552865But then the LD's did very badly there earlier this year so it could be a good test of the reach of JC's Labour.

But the Lib Dems did not do particularly badly in the DC wards making up this CC division and it is clear that if they fight it hard the by election should be a walkover for the Residents Association

Llais Gwynedd appear for all the world to be on their way out. If they lose these two then you have to wonder where they go then. They did do relatively well to go from being a single issue protest to a (nearly) county-wide opposition party, but now the primary schools issue is fading, they don't have much else to fall back on. I'm not sure they could convincingly answer the question "Why vote Llais and not Plaid?" now.
