BBC report that Terry Brookes, Labour councillor on Thurrock, suspended from the Party and resigns as a councillor. We've already had this - he resigned two weeks ago. Byelection already scheduled for 10 September. |

Perhaps I am missing something but why will there be a by election  ?? I do not think there will be in this case, marksenior-the man in question, Richard Smith, is not currently a Pendle councillor. |

Elected Clover Hill ward in 2011; term ending 2015; did not seek re-election in that ward or any other. |

There are 17 by-elections for 18 seats during September including a "double" election in Edinburgh, Leith Walk. So far there are 12 in October, 8 9 of which are in Scotland. In addition there are a further 10 known or impending vacancies, all but 2 in England.
Currently 24 of the total 89 contests and vacancies occuring since the general election are as a result of the resignations of the sitting councillors as they are now MPs.
