There were due to be 11 by-elections during March but one has seen an Independent hold following the candidate being returned unopposed. There will therefore be 10 by-elections in the prediction competition:
* 4 on the 5th March * 0 on 12th March following the candidate being returned unopposed * 1 on 19th * 5 on 26th
3 contests are for London Boroughs last contested in 2014 1 is for a County Council last contested in 2013 4 are for Scottish Councils last contested in 2012 plus the unopposed election 2 are for Welsh Councils also elected in 2012
Conservatives are defending 1 seat following the death of the former councillor Labour is defending 5 seats, 4 following a death and 1 a resignation SNP is defending 1 seat following a disqualification for non-attendance UKIP is defending 1 seat following a death Resident Group is defending 1 seat following a death An Independent is defending 1 seat following a death along with another returned unopposed.
With nominations available for all 10 of the contested by-elections: Conservatives have 9 candidates, Labour 8, Lib Dems 5, UKIP 3, Greens 6, SNP 4, Plaid Cymru 2, Independents 7 contesting 6 seats and 1 Llantwit 1st - a total of 45 candidates plus 1 Independent returned unopposed.
