From the way it was put on Twitter by one journo at the count, it sounds like the SNP won on first preferences. Assuming it was a smidge over the line, that would be a least a 6.8% swing to the SNP.

That's funny, someone on another website was saying this week's by-elections were happening on Friday rather than Thursday.

Ok, so the SNP didn't win on first preferences, polling a little short on 47.33%. But it is a 12.8% swing compared to 2012. Only the top 3 save their deposit, the Greens were on a shade over 4%.

Now why would many in the SNP not want to gain a seat and on a double-digit swing?

Because long term members, supporters and activists feel as if the Kirkcaldy branch has been hijacked by newbies and Ms Penmans ability to attract headlines may not be a positive. The wedge Ms Penman drove between the SNP and other YES parties by giving a platform to Sheridan and Solidarity was naive to say the least. Her habit of going to the press about internal party problems an not dealing with it in the correct manner is also a problem. Im going to enjoy it right enough.

St Brycedale Church, but there will be a rent a mob filling up the seats, probably only 1 in 10 will be from Kirkcaldy, usual routine.
