I'm sure that's a perfect description for one of Kent posters on here Ha! What could we call a figure who embodied this theoretical marriage of the hard-right and far-left? Enoch Hatton? Sir Rhodes Nellist? Francois Mitterrand? I have previously stated that should my allowances somehow total more than the average wage I would not take a greater amount...

Undoubtedly so. I observed something similar with the results in Stevenage in the county council elections last year in the divisions where UKIP were absent www.hertsdirect.org/actweb/election/I expect most of our predictions reflected an expectation of some of this effect

No. The election would have been held on 18 December. linkThanks for that. I could only find the Notice of Casual Vacancy dated 7th November and the Result of Uncontested Election as at noon on 26th November, the latest time for the withdrawal of candidates. I incorrectly assessed the timetable was too tight for the 18th December. Elections a few days before Christmas are not unusual. For example in 2011 there were 3 by-elections on 22nd December whilst in 2010 there was one on 21st December and another on the 23rd.

Vacancies covered by the "6 month" ruleStroud DC, Nailsworth - Conservative died close to rule becoming applicable Although the former councillor Paul Carter's death was notified on 6 November, and therefore must have taken place before the cutoff date for the six month rule on 10 November, Stroud district council has declared that this vacancy is covered and that the vacancy will be filled at the full council election and not before.

Interesting Alderman election tomorrow in Bishopsgate ward in the City of London - not technically a byelection because the previous Alderman has gone out of office at his allotted time (and is not seeking re-election). There are four candidates, all standing as Independents: Havilland James De Sausmarez, head of the investment trust at Henderson Global Investors (who are major City property developers) Simon D'Olier Duckworth, current common councilman for the ward and very involved in the administration of the City Patricia Janet Scotland, Baroness Scotland of Asthal, barrister and Attorney-General for England and Wales 2007-10 Robert Adrian Joseph Waddingham, former senior partner of an actuarian company, and Sheriff of the City of London in 2013-14
