Rather than posting the links to the ONS data I've thought it might be better if I post this link which shows the Census data on maps ukdataexplorer.com/census/Any thoughts? Think I'm going to fall in love with that site.

Thanks David. I have made a change so you can post a link to a specific ward. When you select a ward the ONS Ward Code now appears next to the ward dropdown. Add ?w=<wardcode> to the URL to create a direct link e.g. boundaryassistant.org/census/censusstats.htm?w=W05000845I really like the UK Data Explorer census maps as they include all the univariate key statistics, although in my view some of these need aggregating to make much sense on a map. I also like the way they use open source tools, in particular the mapping format that preserves the topology (shared boundaries) and doesn't lose features when zoomed out a long way.

It's starting to happen quite a lot... I just have to assume that imitation is a form of flattery.

Hi, I had asked a few months ago all the relevent contributors if I could reproduce their work. All have said yes. I hope that is still ok?

That's a good looking site Justlooking. I have been to Pillgwenlly, and am amazed that the Conservatives came that close to Labour in 2008. When I visited, I crossed into Pillgwenlly on the Transporter Bridge (everyone should do this once in their lives), and was then frog-marched by the man who ran the tiny tollbooth museum there across the road to the Community Centre, where there was an excellent display of Pillgwenlly's history and some very cheap tea. Even 100 years ago, very few of its residents had ever been to Newport, just half a mile away. Now I expect it is the other way round, hardly anyone every going there.

Is it definitely counting tonight? Just wondering if it's worth staying up for just one by-election...

When I zoom in on the ukdataexplorer, I can only see part of the maps. Any hints as to how to scroll up, down, east, west etc as well as in and out? Thanks R

According to Paul Flynn: Labour 500 LD 233 Plaid 167 Con 155
good LD performance. Is it in Newport West and not East, right? Judging by the names, was the LibDem the only white candidate?
