The sentence in bold could, of course, also be used to describe SV, which is set to be very much in use in England and Wales in May. That system is ridiculous, but mainly harmless. I wonder what sort of proportion of the second preferences are for the other major party on the basis of them at least not being wholly incompetent. It's certainly an election I have no hesitation in ranking the Labour candidate second in.

This is just for a bit of fun, but I think a lot of us were amazed when Devon, with an apparently deeply unhelpful entitlement of 12.53, actually divided very nicely into the necessary 13 seats.
In an idle moment I found myself wondering whether it could also have been divided into 12.
Well, yes it can -
Obviously the wasp-waisted Totnes seat is the star of the show, but I'd also call attention to C Devon, now extending into no fewer than five authorities.

One of the biggest problems with being a Cov fan is that - like most Premier League clubs - the ground is in a Labour seat, often a very safe one.
Indeed the only time I've been able to say that the club I support is Tory was during the exile to Northampton. And it wasn't a particularly popular view to be holding at the time.
So... can we draw a valid, three-seat Coventry that puts the Ricoh (not going to use the silly new name) in a notionally Tory seat?
And can we do even better and have a Tory seat that also includes the site of Highfield Road?!?
This is my best effort so far:

An infinitesimally small prize awaits anyone that can get Anfield and Goodison Park into a notionally Tory seat.

With only Southport held by the Tories across the City Region that would defeat the best gerrymanderer. Actually a couple of the shouted insults at Southampton yesterday was that they were Tory bastards!

I’m pretty sure all of those wards would have voted Labour in the GE.

I'd have thought so, yes. I'm not sure there's a single ward in Walton, Riverside or Wallasey that would've been pluraility Tory in 2019.
Though this is possibly the least-safe Anfield/Goodison containing seat.

A noble effort, at any rate.
It's a shame the submissions deadline has passed.

How many current premier league football grounds could you not get into a Conservative seat? Those 2, the Etihad, Arsenal, Spurs? Not sure if there are others? Are there any you can’t get into a notionally Labour seat?

Vicarage Road would be pretty tough from the current Premier League sides.

Newcastle would be difficult, if not impossible. Probably quite a bit easier than it would've been pre-2019 if you go outside the Tyne and Wear boundary, mind.
I don't think there are any where a Labour seat would be impossible, especially if the Vicarage Road containing seat is allowed to cross the Herts/London border.

Wouldn't help much since you'd be crossing it in the area of Pinner and Northwood

Why do the Wallasey wards have such strange boundaries within the sea? From what I remember from several decades ago, when I lived up that way, they can't be low tide points, as I'm sure that would be a much straighter line. And for the fantasy constituency, can't you just bring a add a bit of sea to a ward to allow you to link Hoylake up with the Liverpool wards, by-passing Wallasey, Leasowe and Moreton completely.

You could go Vicarage-Oxhey-Carpenders Park-Hatch End and then into Harrow West? And possibly even squeeze in a Brent ward.
Actually I think a seat that does exactly this forms part of the Labour counter-proposal...

Even without leaving London, a seat containing Northumberland Park, Lower Edmonton, and most of Chingford & Woodford Green would likely have been Conservative in the recent past, although not any more. Arsenal should be possible too if you wind down towards Westminster.

If you are willing to split them and go for American-style gerrymandering then you could probably get them all into Tory seats.

They'll be sandbanks, lots of them in that area.

Maybe allow for one sensibly-split ward per seat based on polling districts. Otherwise you could effectively have seats with en/exclaves by joining up non-contiguous bits with tiny slithers of ward containing few or no electors.
Some of the American 'redistricting' is properly ridiculous...
