Wales does quite well under these rules, getting 36 seats including Ynys Môn, though not all of it does. Given how silly some of the council areas are, perhaps Northern Ireland should be exempted, but here we go anyway: Belfast North 74300, South West 74645, East 75448 Ards & North Down Bangor 58713, Ards 58720 Newry, Mourne & Down Downpatrick 65463, Newry 58935 Lisburn & Castlereagh Castlereagh & Hillsborough 52374, Lisburn 50345 Armagh, Banbridge & Craigavon Armagh & Banbridge 73623, Portadown & Lurgan 69181 Mid Ulster 96014 Fermanagh & Omagh 83921 Derry & Strabane Strabane & Derry East 56567, Derry City 52613 (perhaps I should just have accepted the terrible electoral equality you get by drawing the boundary along the Foyle and had Derry Cityside and Waterside & Strabane?) Causeway Coast & Glens East Londonderry 52100, North Antrim 46746 Mid & East Antrim 97425 Antrim & Newtonabbey Antrim Town 51135, Newtownabbey 48050

Obviously there are a fair few wards that cross the old county boundaries, but I might try to mock that up as best as I can.

Here's NI with the counties and Belfast as the basic units: Fermanagh is too small to stand alone, so is combined with Tyrone for two seats: Fermanagh & South Tyrone 84125 North Tyrone 88605 County Derry and the Derry county borough gets three seats. You could argue the latter could stand alone, but a) I couldn't be bothered trying to fit the current wards to the old borough boundaries and b) I suspect even trying would produce an awful mess in Mid Derry: Foyle* 61232 Glenshane Pass** 59507 Coleraine 59197 *Yes, this name only makes sense for dodging the issue of what the actual settlement's name is, but they used it in 1929, so it still fits with 1940s rules. **No, this isn't the sort of name a 1940s review would have favoured, but it is at least an accurate description. Antrim (which using the traditional counties extends south to Lisburn) gets four seats: North Antrim 73388 Antrim & Larne 73381 Newtownabbey & Carrickfergus 70256 Lisburn 68349 The middle two seats are ugly, but the only way to fix that is to accept a Lisburn seat that is about 15-20,000 electors smaller than the other 3 seats. Belfast gets three seats: Belfast West 72365 Belfast South East 74559 Belfast North 77469 As always with three-seat Belfast plans, you can rotate the arrangements if desired. Down gets four large seats: North Down 77702 Strangford 78558 Downpatrick 78945 West Down 80024 If you wish you can remove Dundonald and Holywood from North Down, add Newtonards, create a new seat based on Belfast's dormitory suburbs and add the Ards Peninsula to the Downpatrick seat. Given that 1940s commissions were less bothered by contiguity, they might have considered that. Finally, Armagh gets two small seats: Lurgan 58182 Armagh 59844

The smallish unitaries in North Lincolnshire mean that Humberside does reasonably well out of these rules, getting an additional seat whereas in the actual recent review it lost one. Grimsby 60908 Cleethorpes 55088 Brigg 62865 Scunthorpe 62511 Goole 64570 Bridlington 62257 Beverley 71102 Haltemprice 66364 Hull West 57925 Hull North 57714 Hull East 62990

Neither Somererset nor South Gloucestershire produce anything that different from the 2010 boundaries on these rules, but Bristol receives a fifth seat and that is somewhat interesting. There are a bunch of different options, but this one is quite coherent if you're OK with having two seats crossing the Avon: NW 66975 NE 73073 C 64328 SE 66131 S 65061
