Have got the window open at work and both the SDLP and PBP have had loudspeaker vans go by in the past hour. Didn't realise anybody still used those. There were quite a few of those in Southall in 2007. I was annoyed by the Conservative loudspeaker van in 1979 keeping me awake in Croydon Central at 9:30pm.

I remember going around Hazel Grove with a loudspeaker van in 1979. The first general election campaign I was involved with was February 1974 in Hulme Ward of (the then Conservative-held) Moss Side constituency. We saw nothing of the Conservatives there as they were focussing their attention on Chorlton and Alexander Wards. Someone did ask if the Tories ever showed up in Hulme. Nick Brown suggested that they might occasionally send an armoured loudspeaker van around!

I have 4 cousins from Derry, 3 of whom live in the constituency and one just over the border. One of them knows the SF candidate through work, says she always got on well with her, but she doesn't think she going to vote for her to be an MP. They have usually, not always, voted SDLP and I suspect they will support Colum Eastwood this time as well.

Severely reduced majority, but given the last few years we've had..
Happy to hold.

Severely reduced majority, but given the last few years we've had.. Happy to hold. Did the strong debate performance save him? No, those debates are nearly solely watched by political anoraks. Tactical voting by unionists, position on Gaza/Biden, and there does still exist typical SF voters in Foyle who aren't entirely enamoured with abstentionism.
