Penrose was briefly a work colleague in my publishing days. He was appointed by the Americans put in charge of the business to run the schools publishing operation. As a small player in a highly competitive market a radical perspective was required, in my view, but the Americans had a surprisingly conservative approach. I wasn't impressed but I was too busy with trying to sort out a load of other stuff to watch too closely.He mentioned his political ambitions.
