It's not only the Lib Dems who have fun with bar charts.

Worse Than The Bar Chart Is The Use Of Capital Letters Everywhere In The Article To No Effect At All. Vote Lib Dem For Restrictions On Errant Tory Capitalisation!

Good grief!
I had this down as a Lib Dem win, but having seen that I'm not so sure now!

Hopefully he'll end his clown show campaign by throwing himself off Beachey Head

that's a little cruel. But it has been a very silly campaign & I'm rather surprised it has gone down so well. I'm convinced his speech is more slurred than it used to be ; maybe falling from things & banging his head has had an adverse effect. I don't see any difficulty for his party in Eastbourne.

I'm not a fan of the approach but that "it has gone down so well" may suggest it wasn't "silly" in electoral terms. Perhaps "Ed Davey? Yeah, the guy who falls off paddleboards" is better than "Ed Davey? Who?"

And for a press pack which turns up with 300 cameras when Farage farts perhaps the stunts needed to be done to get any attention. π«€

I'm pretty sure that most of the 'this is silly' commentary is coming from people who previously couldn't stop saying, 'Ed Davey, how boring is he?' and those are probably the same people who used to say 'Greens? Just a one-issue party with no other policies, barely more than a lobby group' and are now saying 'Greens should get back to talking about the environment, no one is interested in their other policies.'
I think Davey has stopped the accusations of dullness in their tracks, shown he's a genial bloke with a good line in self-deprecation, and there's been clever matching of policy proposals to the stunts. Maybe most people won't notice the policies consciously, but if a targeted message goes out to an interest group with a link to the matching stunt, then it could be very effective.

I think the local element of campaigns is reinforced more than one might think - for example 'Ed Davey visits a care home that I think I might have passed in Romsey' meant more to me than 'Ed Davey builds sandcastles', but I imagine when you add 'in Paignton' to the latter it becomes more of a local talking point for them. Certainly Davey has managed to achieve this in the manner of touring his targets and not just going anywhere for a stunt. I'm not saying there are people in Lib Dem targets who would otherwise be unaware they are in one but it accentuates the point.

I was chatting with a friend of mine who is a member of the Lib Dems, he reckons Josh Babarinde is a future leader of the party.
