Polling station for Gaisford ward. Presiding officer - who I've known for twenty years - told me it's been the busiest he's ever had.

Various commitments limited my activity to a long stretch “telling” at an Offington polling station. This remains a fairly Tory ward even with Labour’s local dominance so knocking up was concentrated elsewhere. Thus “telling” was mainly being a big guy with a large rosette (now somewhat restricted by rules) smiling, being friendly and advising dog-owners of the light touch approach to their pets being taken inside. It was pleasant. The Tory with me did roughly the same but fairly often advised Tories he knew that it was a hopeless cause, even before they cast their vote.
He’d been to help in Portsmouth North and correctly predicted Mordaunt’s defeat. He was also correct here - not close at all. I must say a very well-organised campaign bearing in mind that resources were switched away fairly early based on the evidence of a fairly comfortable gain. And the initial “noises off” from some councillors defecting based partly on the selection in this seat appeared to be shrugged off.
