I'm sure it wasn't him persay, but the party. But C'mon, this is politics - shady things and dirty tricks do happen. And for those of us who have been around this long enough - and that's most of us here - all know this is a very likely scenario and not *just* a Corbynista conspiracy. And it's a smart move, too. I like and respect Starmer for purging the "flotsam and jetsam" out for his party. If we are to have a Labour government, it should be one that is genuinely a stable and sensible government run by genuinely decent people, whatever my ideological differences with them may be. Per Se 😊

It's really cutting it close to select a new candidate considering nominations close a week on Friday. not really. the NEC can do it pretty quickly. And there are other seats without Labour candidates so far, too.

Amid all the rejoicing as a seriously nasty MP is ejected, think about the precedent
A complaint can be made at a strategic time and a troublesome MP is removed
This isn't the comparatively clear process with Abbott or Corbyn, this is done by administrative fiat
If Farage was doing this we'd say it was a new low

The only MP Farage's party ever had elected expelled himself quite quickly.

Surely people on the left could start playing the same trick by making false or spurious comments re those on the Right - eg Wesley Streeting and others. They literally did this to Jas Athwal…

Labour people also did this to Jason Zadrozny in Ashfield in 2015. The LibDems suspended him, he was eventually cleared, and set up the Ashfield Independents.

Yeh this has been going on for years, and the fact that lefties appear to think the tactic has just been invented by dastardly right-wingers is nothing short of hilarious. Particularly as it was the Social Justice movement that threw away the principle of "innocent until proven guilty"... PS it's happened in the Green Party also - here trans activists made complaint against a terf lesbian councillor the week before selections in March: www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/news/green-councillor-suspended-party/

not exactly breaking news but the BCW’s son who is living with us (due to a tree falling on his house) tells me that he was a year or two above Lloyd Russell-Moyle on the Bradford peace studies course. He wasn’t forthcoming with any other info though

Crick reporting that Eddie Izzard is the name in the frame here. Her current show is only just starting its run though that shouldn't be a complete impediment.

Probably not a bad fit for a seat like this.

I saw Eddy Izzard at a student union event 30 years ago. Back then, some people were claiming "Izzard is a woman!" because of the nail-varnish and lipstick; and progressives understood then that this was a form of bigotry. Now, people are claiming "Izzard is a woman!" because of the nail-varnish and lipstick; and progressives say now that *denying* this is a form of bigotry. It's a sad indictment of progressivism...

For me it would be relief if Izzard doesn't get it.

If it's "jobs for the boys" does that mean Izzard is, or isn't, eligible?
