Damn shame I won't be able to be up all night to watch it this time. I've got a 2hr Merchants, Pirates and Crusaders in the Medieval Mediterranean seminar at 2pm. I thought this meant so amazing board game like dungeons and dragons then I realised it’s a history module haha

Is anyone going to have a stab at a prediction of the result? Why not. Total guess but never stopped me before: Liberals - 154 Conservatives - 119 Bloc - 32 NDP - 30 Greens - 2 PPC - 1 (Beauce)

Because they don't know that. If I remember correctly you live in Val de Lac in the geographically enormous north Quebec riding. Who’s going to win in your riding? The Bloc. Incumbent has an high profile and good record, the Liberals could have won, but their Quebec campaign was average and named their candidate after the election call (an Anishnabe from outside the riding). Also, they won't rack up the Native vote, as the NDP is running the former deputy Chief of the largest Cree community. Conservatives selected a good candidate and he is trying very hard, but they are not winning here unless they are on route towards a Mulroney-like landslide.

Is anyone going to have a stab at a prediction of the result? Despite having lost momentum in the last few days the Tories will do a little bit better than polled because of low ABC-TurnOut and PPC losing several perCentages (yet, not collapsing as formerly). So, they could once again be ahead by %, but not by seats. What means a reduced Liberal minority, relying on either BQ or NDP.

I'll take a punt and go for an increased Grits minority, with them over-performing their poll numbers, the Tories doing a bit worse (and falling behind in the popular vote) and the NDP with modest gains.
Last time the Liberals were under-polled by everyone going into the election and, other than a wobble just before the debates, Trudeau is still preferred as best Prime Minister by a clear margin. So I think that will be enough to push people towards the Grits on the day. The unknown quantity of the PPC is an additional issue for the Conservatives as it's just not clear exactly what they're polling, if it's on the high side of what's been recorded high then they could be very screwed.

One of the odd things about Canadian election results broadcasting is the way everyone seems to regard the first votes from a Riding as being massively significant in showing which way things are going, even when the number of votes is tiny. Watching the 1993 election night show the other week I was frustrated that CBC lumped together ridings where a party had a lead (even after a handful of polling stations) with ones where a result had been determined, so that the rolling totals of seats won kept reducing as well as increasing. Seemed an oddly unhelpful way to present the results. Does anyone know if they’ve changed this presentationally since then?
