So far we have received no leaflets at all for this election whereas friends who live in the village told me that up to yesterday they had received 4 different Conservative leaflets/letters and nothing from anyone else.

I'm not sure how this compares to turnout at the same time in 2019. Obviously it also doesn't include postal votes.

Labour won here with a majority of 39 votes. The winner appears to be the youngest MP elected at 22 years and 85 days, which according to Michael Crick exactly matches the Labour record set by Malcolm McMillan in 1935.

Given how unconvincing the Labour gain was in Peterborough, I don't think anyone would've saw a Labour gain here next door...
EDIT : Looks like the Workers party took a large ethnic vote over Gaza hence why it wasn't a more straight forward gain

EDIT : Looks like the Workers party took a large ethnic vote over Gaza hence why it wasn't a more straight forward gain On the day in Peterborough the Workers Party were very active in Central, East, Park and Ravensthorpe wards. At the polling station I was at there were many taxi loads of voters arriving and the WP teller seemed to know them all. As I only speak English I have no idea what he was saying to them. Anecdotally I heard that Labour avoided Central ward due to the level of hostility they were encountering.

The new MP here will apparently be the new baby of the house at 22 years old.

Undoubtedly if Paul Bristow had been the MP for here the Conservatives would have held on. I don't have a lot of time for his politics but he is up there with Bob Blackman as a superb campaigner.

It’s an impressive backdrop! Almost looks like a place you would want to visit. Why are the candidates on the left and right social distancing? I do wonder how unexpected this is (no poll here!) and the extent to which Sam thought he was a paper candidate or was there a real sense that they were going to get this. And was Vara particularly unpopular or complacent? It does make you wonder in a wider sense (not reflecting on the victor here though he’s had a lot of mud unfairly thrown at him) as the new cohort is so big and with so many unexpected victors how many might turn out to be wrong-uns, e.g. O’Mara, Rob Roberts, and just oddballs like Gullis and Anderson.

Don’t know much about him but it would have been identically following the footsteps of Brian Mawhinney here.

Malcolm MacMillan was something of an accidental MP. He was a student at Aberdeen University and contacted Labour HQ to ask if he could help out in his own constituency. He was told that they had no candidate but if he was nominated the Party would back him. He was elected and stayed for 35 years despite being an awful constituency MP. He stood as an Independent in February 1974 and lost his deposit.

Why are the candidates on the left and right social distancing? because the Labour and Tory candidates shook their hands when Labour won

I don't want to sound rude, but he has a striking similarity to Beavis from Beavis and Butthead.

I never realised this seat now also includes 'Peterborough South' hence I can now see how Labour gained it. The compass point name of this constituency tends to make you think it's a mainly rural seat which in this case is slightly misleading.

It did under the old boundaries as well, with the difference being that it wasn't the majority of the seat's electorate then.
If there was a poll on this thread at the time of the GE I would have voted CON hold, however I did always think it would be close and that Labour had an outside chance of winning.
