Have any (non-fantasist) candidates formally declared yet? I think I'll be up against Theresa May so readying responses to the "strong and stable" spin. If stb12 wants to do a poll, you could include May, Angiolini and me. In that case, best of luck to you.

In that case, best of luck to you. Strong and stable leadership is on the ballot, and so is Theresa May.

So- a win in an election as high-profile as this is not particularly likely but the election is high profile enough that even without a win, you've been mentioned in the media so will obviously have a bit of a platform to raise issues you want to. Clearly tuition fees is one of those. Have you been in contact with the Green Party in Oxford to discuss strategy/things to focus on in your campaign? I think I'm right in saying that that election has a dedicated thread. Maybe AdminSTB can move it there. This is the thread in question.

What was the nomination criteria?
Graduate, but I’m assuming no deposit or 100 nominations etc.

I note that Chris Patten is the first Chancellor not do die in office for about 300 years. He has retired aged 80. Are all the candidates prepared to make that commitment to long service?

No. I support Statute XX which provides for 10-year term limits. I may run for re-election if I am successful, should the rules allow for me to do so. My internal polling suggest about 27% of people think the position should have age limits, with a retirement age of 60 the most popular among those who favour an age limit. That would mean nobody born before 1964 could contest the office! That would make Angiolini, Hague, Khan, and Mandelson ineligible. I'm not sure I agree with that, but Oxford academics do generally have to retire at age 67.

Imran Khan being the notable absence. The good news is that judging by some of the other candidate's statements, you won't come last!

Its an interesting electoral process where the first vote is by AV. I presume the second is as well (which has a good reason for it).

It is deeply embarrassing for a supposedly great institution to allow all the time wasters and attention seekers to take part in this election.

Francisc Vladovici Poplauschi has my favourite statement:
“I am a simple student, a poor immigrant, and a passionate soul. My aims for Oxford are simple. Win, win, win. Why not get a common person to deliver? Why not pick a rando? Why not pick someone who you have no clue about? This is democracy manifest! Pick me, I promise to give you anything you want. Is this a bribe? Officially? No, but unofficially? Perhaps. Pick me for whatever reason you’d pick someone else, I’ll actually give it to you.
Who cares about the big names? They’re all old anyway, they will probably pop off soon and I’ll be back here anyway so let’s skip ahead and elect me Chancellor of Oxford for a safe and secure university.”
