Four thousand three hundred and sixty two, Four thousand three hundred and sixty three, Four thousand three hundred and sixty four, Four thousand three hundred and…
Would you like a cup of tea?
Yes please, thanks very much. Now where was I?
Four thousand three hundred and …..?
One, Two, Three, ……….,
With apologies to the Goon Show.

I was merely bringing Papal election procedures to this election in jest Better to do it the other way round: use AV elections to elect the Pope (with the usual quota of 67%) with the full details of each round being published and announced properly, instead of being secret.

I had a dream I got 7% of the first round vote, but came 6th and didn't get to the second round, but someone I knew at Oxford called Zahra came fifth and so I endorsed her in the second round. She didn't run for the position, of course. Highly plausible obviously

The second round candidates have just been announced by e mail ...
Lady Elish Angiolini Rt Hon Dominic Grieve Lord William Hague Lord Peter Mandelson Baroness Jan Royall
As far as I can see, no announcement of voting figures for the first round, at least yet.
That will save a few blushes ...
The above are exactly as I (and I guess many) expected, though I myself thought David Willetts was also a strong candidate

It continues to amuse me that people who are in parties opposed to the Conservatives or proclaim their support for such parties simultaneously feel able to proclaim who is or isn't a Conservative. Not that such behaviour harms my own party in any way

None of their titles are inherited.... (Grieve is, I think, the nearest of them to an aristocrat; his gt-grandfather was a baronet)

As far as I can see, no announcement of voting figures for the first round, at least yet. That will save a few blushes ... I'm assuming that's a feature rather than a bug of the Oxford announcement The votes for some of the more, ahem, "interesting" candidates must have been VERY low. VERY embarrassingly low for all concerned....

The proper candidates will probably have been told, not so sure about all the numpties who should never have been allowed to stand in the first place.

No wonder Oxford's on the slide.

On principle, I do not like the non-publication of election results.

I wonder if they are waiting until after the second round to publish all of the results. For example if the first round results showed that one of the final five was well ahead of the others, it might make the second round a foregone conclusion.
