Other reports suggest that around two thirds of Republican representatives opposed the move to make McHenry interim Speaker. This is genuinely one of the biggest clusterfucks in political history. The House GOP conference are an absolute laughing stock and non more so than Jordan who somehow still believes that he can become Speaker.

Several stories have emerged overnight, here are a few of the more interesting ones.
1. Most of the anti-Jordan voters are apparently refusing to even speak to him.
2. One idea floated by team Jordan is just going through vote after vote throughout the weekend in the hopes of wearing down the opposition.
3. McHenry told the GOP conference meeting that he will not attempt to move legislation unless the house votes to give him explicit authority to do so. He added that if Republicans pressure him on this matter he will resign. He also revealed that McCarthy gave the clerk a list of names to serve as Speaker pro tem and if McHenry resigns the next person on that list will replace him.

Here we go again. There might be some absences today, 2 Republicans and 4 Democrats were not present during the quorum call. Apparently Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) has gone on a fact finding mission to Israel.
Kevin McCarthy is nominating Jim Jordan.

Womack votes for Scalise
I make that 25 GOP votes against Jordan plus two absences/abstentions; Derrick Van Orden and Wesley Hunt. Also a couple of absences on the Democrat side; Vicente Gonzalez and Donald Payne.

Watching the Republican Party act like this feels more television than reality. I read a blog today about the threats from Republicans to the wives of members who were going to vote against Jordan, and credible death threats made against the opposition to Jordan. They've been eating their own since nominating Trump and now they've gone past the dessert course and coffees I've no idea what they've got left to destroy.

Stories floating around that the anti-Jordan Republicans are rather more organised than the rest: they have apparently been rationing how many actually vote against Jordan, and are planning to switch a few more each vote so that opposition is seen to be growing. Such fun. Looks like this is true. What a joke. Hakeem Jeffries now has more total votes for Speaker than any other candidate in history (it was before this ote, but I'm not sure which one it was on)
