Has Labour ever won Prittlewell in the post-1973 era? I remember it as a very, if not exactly monumentally, safe Conservative ward. Not that I can pretend to know the area. It was won by the Liberal Party, the SLD and the Liberal Democrats at almost every election from 1973 to 1999, and 2006 to 2012. Labour consistently third though.

It's a suburban area surrounding Southend Hospital, but not particularly high status. Back in the day it used to regularly vote Liberal Democrat. There's no obvious reason why it should be more Conservative than neighbouring Blenheim Park and St Laurence, but Labour has never had any success here. If anyone could solve the parking problems round the hospital, they would win easily - it's a running sore among the residents.

Its easily forgotten now that back in the 1980s Southend was a major Tory versus SDP/Lib battleground, with Labour confined to a handful of wards even in better years.
