There needs to be a minor correction to 'Marden and Yalding' in your list.

This certainly used to be something of a target area for them. There was a split in 2021(?), as well as a poor set of results that year. Since then any strength outside the town itself seems to have fallen away entirely, and that's reflected in the candidates - I think all the wards it's plausible we might win have got full sets. But with all ups and new boundaries, wouldn't be entirely surprised were it not very pleasant for us.

There are a couple missing the LDs are standing 2 candidates in Barming and Teston, not one, and the Greens are standing one in Fant and Oakwood, they have endorsed the Fant and Oakwood Independent candidates for the other 2 seats in that Ward. .

Urk, I could feel there'd be mistake number three coming. Apologies all, I'll go through again later and recheck everything

Its a nightmare one to disentangle that - separate links to every ward, lots of new unfamiliar wards with variable number of vacancies and an erratic and inconsistent pattern of parties nominating. I don't think I would have done it without a few errors

I've been through and checked my list against the original SOPN again. In addition to various above mentioned issues, I was also missing a further LD in Marden & Yalding. My original post is now updated and (hopefully) correct.

Not much interest in what is likely to be the loss of the County Town by the Tories...
If this totally falls this times - as is likely - and Tunbridge Wells remains in NOC but without Tory involvement in the admin, we could be down to just Dartford and Sevenoaks left under Tory control - about 10 years ago every district and unitary was Tory!
Losing the Garden of England in such a dramatic way due largely to their attempts to turn the Garden of England into the concrete backyard has cost the Tories much in this former heartland!

Maidstone has been under No overall control more often than not from my recollection - I don't think it's particularly remarkable

Nowhere. The only ward in which they had no candidate that they previously won is Park Wood, which they won only in a 2006 by-election and in 2008 and it seems the councillors became Independent when the Coalition happened and they never even got 10% after that. In all their previous strong wards, they ran candidates, sometimes to a pretty low result.

Actually some of these Wards are very candidate sensitive. Coxheatth and Hunton (now Farleigh)could have been LD had Richard Webb re-stood in 2023 and then this year. He had a large personal vote. Holding the seat became difficult simply because of the lack of a local candidate. In that ward local is essential. The LDS could probably have had 2 more seats in Vinters and Grove Green and High street but for the intervention of 2 former LD members, who had been long terms members for Parts of these Wards, Martin Cox and Denise Joy.. with the defectors all gone it will be possible but not certain that LD strength will recover. On that note one of the defectors held the former Loose Ward (quite Rural).which is now part of the mixed rural and suburban Loose and Linton Ward, The LD ticket without the defector comfortably carried that Ward. The LD lead candidate also missed the mixed rural and urban Barming and Teston ward by 5 votes. Elsewhere going forward the best prospects are probably best against Labour in Parkwood and Shepway. The LD vote in Shepway is concentrated in the old Shepway North ward, with hardly anything in shepway south. on the borough this is one Ward now In the County next year though the old boundaries will still apply and Shepway North will be with the Old South ward where the LD ticket was absolutely miles ahead. while it is far from a done deal taking the county seat there would put the LDs back in the game in that part of Urban Maidstone and threaten Labour if and when the Labour government weakens in popularity.

What are the main predecessor wards to Palace Wood and Grove Green & Vitners Park? Palace Wood is basically the parts of Allington and Bridge that didn't go into Allington & Bridge, I think Grove Green & Vitners Park is mainly from the old East ward, with the southern part of Boxley...
