Vacancy would have been for 2023-27 term, but Worcester moves to all outs next year. Allah Ditta was the Conservative candidate in May and had prior to that been councillor for Cathedral ward. David Carney has stood as an independent in this ward for the last 2 elections and Scott Butler (Lib Dem) also stood here in May.

Under Welsh electoral law, candidates are required to state on their nomination papers their membership of a political party.

David Evans (in Llanfarian, Ceredigion) has not stated that he is a member of the Liberal Democrat Party. Is this an oversight, or have the Lib Dems selected a non-party member to contest the seat for them?

I thought that only applied to independents, or people who have been a member of a different party within a set period of time (I have  two years in my head but could be wrong)

The Local Elections (Principal Areas) (Wales) Rules 2021

Rule 8(4)(b) - "Paragraph (3) [i.e. the requirement to disclose membership of a political party] does not apply where the candidate has not at any time during the relevant period been a member of a registered political party other than the party or parties to which that description relates"

Rule 8(6)(c) - "the relevant period" means the period of 12 months ending with the day on which the notice of election is published.

That's correct, if anything the Conservative and Plaid candidates were either over keen or super safe. That info doesn't appear on the ballot paper btw only the SOPN.

I assume the Conservative is a student btw - anyone know?

In St Margaret & South Marston Joe Polson stood for the Lib Dems in Gorse Hill & Pinehurst in 21. His swapping to Labour isn't a shock as he's fairly close friends with the Labour PPC for Swindon North

I read it in my lunch hour, which was less than 80 minutes. Admittedly I did have to skim some sections. I don't necessarily need to know (certainly in terms of informing a by-election in 2023) who the MP for Barkston Ash was in 1910. Which is no criticism of the suthor - far from it. There's really no such thing as 'too much information' when it comes to these things, but we all have lives to lead

I always find some of the more tangential bits of Andrew's previews rather like the moments on Test Match Special where the commentator is telling you about the traffic outside the ground in Kolkata or the preferred lunchtime snacks of the home fans in Barbados - it tells you nothing about the likely result of the contest, but it does help you picture the scene from a distance.
