On 2 May 2013 there will be all-out elections in the towns and parishes of Cornwall, Durham, Isle of Wight, Northumberland, Shropshire and Wiltshire - to coincide with the elections of the unitary county councils. There will also be a significant number of town and parish by-elections. I have started this thread, so that we do not confuse the thread for the principal authority by-elections. Maybe we can record the key parish by-elections here. I will try to file reports here on forthcoming parish by-elections and on the main town and parish contests in the six counties, as my capacity allows.

Thanks, listener, I think it makes sense to have two threads given the number of contests in each category.

Thanks for the list above.
I am not sure whether Ashby-de-la-Zouch (Holywell) and Reepham have been called. The Ramsgate vacancy has only occurred recently and may be called later.
There are now 3 vacancies at Buntingford.
Other contests which I have picked up are: Bradley Stoke (Primrose Bridge) in South Gloucestershire Filton (Conygre) in South Gloucestershire Sudbury (Sudbury North) in Babergh Tenterden (Tenterden South) in Ashford Witney (Witney East) in West Oxfordshire

Thanks for setting this up listener. I was actually going to request that we keep parish and town council elections on separate threads to other by-elections, as otherwise the threads do become confusing to follow.
I take it that the intention then is to use this thread to discuss both any by-elections on May 2nd and all the elections in the counties you listed.

I was planning to include all the parish and town council elections on this thread, including the all-out elections in the six counties. If that is too much, we could put a thread elsewhere for the all-out elections, but I am not sure where. Should we have a separate thread for each county - maybe under Vote 2013?
There are also all-out community council elections in Ynys Mon.

I assume the vast bulk of them will be done on the Friday, either at the same time as the county results or later.

Well they'll be exciting (that said I think our friend Colin may be a sacrificial lamb in one of them)

I have read that there are 3 byelections to Abbots Langley (Herts). Indeed. I have sent a PM to Listener alerting him to these. They are: Leavesden ward, due to the death of Ivy Young (L/Dem). Abbots Langley ward, due to the resignation of Leon Lay (L/Dem). Primrose Hill ward, due to the resignation of Samantha Heilling (L/Dem). Leon Lay was only elected in a by-election last May. It was surprising that he was a candidate at that time as it was thought he had been suffering poor health. The Labour candidates will be myself, Ahmad-Said Namdarkhan, and Bruce Prochnik, respectively. We have all fought these wards before in recent years. (Bruce has some noteriety as the child star of the 1960s Broadway show Oliver! )

Could we have a separate board or whatever they're called for Parish and TC elections and byelections? Then the various threads could be kept together?

There are also all-out community council elections in Ynys Mon. Oooh! Can we have a predictions competition? I wonder if my big brother is standing?

Incidentally he still lives in the house he was born in; and Ivy Young also lived until her final days in the same house she was born in. Not something that is very common these days. Samantha Heilling has resigned due to work commitments.

The Tories had to import their candidate in the last district elections from somewhere else. There were nine people who voted, in a 2-seat ward, for the Tory and TUSC candidate in 2011!
