The Royal Navy ran on discipline back in the day to keep in line men who served under poor conditions, many of whom did not want to be there in the first place. They were kept in line by the Articles of War, which justifiably prescribed a penalty of death for mutiny. In the end, three of the mutineers suffered this fate, but two were acquitted and one pardoned. Harsher treatment, punishing all the offenders put on trial, and sending a ship to punish those who had landed in the Pitcairn Islands, could have avoided later incidents such as the Spithead Mutinies of 1797.

The vote was 1-2 and I don’t know anything about the history of the mutiny on the Bounty ( so I can’t judge whether it was justified or not) so I just voted to make it 2-2 to make the bar chart look neater.

It was a close-run thing, Christian did not have the level of support he expected and the numbers of crew wishing a seat in the boat with Bligh exceeded the capacity. So let's assume the mutiny is unsuccessful, a few mutineers are hanged and none of you have ever heard of it. Lets ask a binary question in the poll and an analogue one to go along with it. If the mutineers had not settled Pitcairn who would have? Anyone? who would have claimed it? When? Why? I don't know if Pitcairn would have been settled (though it probably would have been, in due course - Polynesians had settled there previously) but that it would have been claimed by somebody - quite possibly Chile - is beyond question. Save possibly for a section of Antarctica (Marie Byrd Land, and even that was claimed by the US in some accounts) that is true of every bit of land in the world. |

Entirely inaccurate.
Milky Way is *always* the last one left. Maybe with the odd Mars Bar or Galaxy Caramel.
Bounties tend to go quite early on round here. I'd put them on a par with the Marathon bar overall. Although I tend not to get Celebrations since they stopped including Topics. Cunts.
