Is that why they like hedge funds? Im not even sure what a hedge fund is these days other than a(n excessive) charging structure. Precisely.

What other sort of fund is going to leverage your capital to take short and long positions on your behalf / trade options? Not a rhetorical question, a genuine one out of curiosity, surely a hedge fund remains distinct from a managed fund / unit trust? Those will sometimes hedge currency to an extent, but the fund manager isn't going to place a large bet on Sports Direct opening in the red tomorrow morning, or bet on the £ crashing the day after a General Election.

Hedges don't have to be a short position, but if that is specifically what you are looking for there Are lots of Mutual funds that are long/short. Eg www.ubs.com/ch/en/asset-management/distribution-partners/funds-prices/product-details/ie00bbl4v372.html would you call that a hedge fund?

I'm a mere unsophisticated index tracker investor myself, albeit being risk averse has served me pretty well!

Thanks, that's interesting. I'm a mere unsophisticated index tracker investor myself, albeit being risk averse has served me pretty well! I own mostly SMT which has done well even after a decidedly rough 2022! My horizon is around 20-25 years so happy to shoulder the extra risk.

I am country. I have a beech hedge. 20 feet high. Our tall Beech hedge of a similar height is now really not a hedge but beech trees, unlike the shorter pruned ones.

I am country. I have a beech hedge. 20 feet high. I am country. I have a hedge made up from many different native species, some evergreen and some deciduous, beech and field maple predominating. It is not 20 feet high or I would lose the friendship of some of my neighbours across the lane.

I look up to him as he has a petrol driven hedgetrimmer.... oh, sorry I'm in the wrong sketch.

Doesn't matter. By adding '+' you've turned it into the universal set By Jove, I think he's got it!! Yes, the universal set of all people of gender and sexual minorities. No, the universal set of /people/. Once you add "and everybody else", that's it - it's everybody.

I'm waiting for Two Spirit to appear on the ever increasing list, and watch the usual suspects tie themselves up in knots worrying about cultural appropriation.

There are a considerable number of right wing candidates standing which won't help the Conservative party. I wonder how well Reform will do - if they can't make any impact in a seat like this then I wonder if they have much of a future?
