Despite the best efforts of the LibDems to hand the Tories victory (no this is not an entirely serious post, before the usual suspects swarm all over it)

Though postal votes will largely have been cast before this week's fun.

It did go through my mind! The events of this week pretty much minimised any risk that the Tories would win, split opposition or not! Well, yes, but it still would only have taken 18 more Green voters to plump for the Lib Dems as the best option for winning here and the Tories would have held on. I think the result shows that a Tory victory due to split opposition was eminently possible here. NB In saying this I am by no means questioning whether either party should have stood, etc... both had a right to go for it.

A very strong result, missing out last time as the only alternative to the Tories, and winning this time with the non-Tory vote split. Can't beat the Green Wave.

Green gain from Cons? Well done the Greens. It happens a lot these days, possibly more than from any other party.

Yes absolutely, although if the Greens had been sensible stood down too none of this would've been a problem!

But the bar charts would have been boring, but at least the claim that only the Lib Dems can win here would have been completely irrefutable this time. It's a one horse race...

An alternative view would be that you could only win this seat with the Lib Dems stripping votes from the Tories Given that the Green vote went down in %, but the Tory vote went down much more, that is quite plausible. "vote Lib Dem get Green" will be the Tory slogan next time..

"vote Lib Dem get Green" will be the Tory slogan next time.. They might try that, but they'd be foolish to. It doesn't work in the same 'beware of the boogieman' way as "vote Lib Dem get Labour".
