Pretty reasonable Labour results. Been there once. While it's a tax haven there's plenty of other people living there and it isn't particularly wealthy. It's a rather odd place. As if a North West seaside town has broken off and declared independence. And full of people who went for work and desperately want to leave.

Far mori interesting than expected with 4 ministers losiing their seats - in all, 7 MHKs failing to defend their seats. The Manx Labour Party reenter the House of Keys with 2 their candidates, Party leader Joney Faragher and Sarah Maltby topping their respective polls in Douglas East and Douglas South (incidentally, both seats made history in electing 2 women),their third candidate, Gareth Young, just failing to gain their third target of Garff by 91 votes. Only Liberal Vannin leader, Lawrie Hoopers was elected for his party, topping the poll in Ramsey. Two other LV MHKs did not defend their seats and their replacement candidates did not fare well. The Greens came close in Rushden, with Andrew Langan-Newton missing out by 54 votes. Of course, this is a polity dominated by Independents and the most interesting aspect of the poll was the election of a record 10 women MHKs. A couple of those ministers who lost their seats were really badly beaten; check out Geoffrey Boot in Glenfaba & Peel. One of the others Liberal Vannin MHKs elected in 2016, Julie Edge, actually did successfully defend her Onchan seat, just not as a Liberal Vannin candidate; she'd left the party some time ago. The other one from 2016 had already stepped down mid-term. I had looked at all the results and somehow missed that Julie Edge had run again as an Independent. Weird as I had also watched most of the reviews on Isle of Man Youtube TV channel.

Some day I'll get round to scanning my copy of Tom Sherratt's "Isle of Man parliamentary election results 1919 - 1979".

Formerly a Conservative councillor in Folkestone. Unless there's a redundancy payment triggered or enhanced by defeat one wonders why he tried to defend his seat - such a loss of support must have been pretty obvious beforehand.

Your boundaries are out of date, certainly for this election and I think for the previous one.

Formerly a Conservative councillor in Folkestone. screamed at Manx natives to go back to Ireland if they don't like the way he governs them (a Manx native man and his Irish wife, rather). I can see why that wouldn't go over well coming from a recent migrant from England.

Can anyone tell me Manx Labour's best-ever general election?

Can anyone tell me Manx Labour's best-ever general election? I can't .
But I can tell you that the novelist Hall Caine was elected to the House Of Keys in a 1901 by-election, becoming the member for Ramsey. He was MP for the constituency until 1908. He had entered politics due to the collapse of the Dumbell bank the previous year, which left many on the island penniless. A bank called Dumbell does seems to be asking for trouble.
His sons Derwent Hall Caine and Gordon Hall Caine were respectively Labour and National Labour MP for Liverpool Everton (1929-31) and Conservative MP for East Dorset (1922-9 and 1931-45).

Can anyone tell me Manx Labour's best-ever general election? 1929. Manx Labour had 7 MHKs - and only one unsuccessful candidate. Oddly the first post-war general election (1946) was a disaster for the Manx Labour Party. They put up 18 candidates (more than twice as many as they had ever previously stood), but ended up with only two seats (down three).

Can anyone tell me Manx Labour's best-ever general election? In 1919, their first election, they stood in most of the constituencies and won 4 seats. They won 6 in 1924 and 7 (their best in terms of seats) in 1929. This dropped to 5 in 1934. The postwar years appear to have been pretty fallow in comparison.
