Current council is
Con 18 Lab 11 Green 4 LD 2
Defending in 2022
Con 6 ( including one elected as a green) Lab 5 Green 0 LD 1
After several years of relative stability and the council being effectively decided by one or two key wards, the last couple of years have seen some surprises here
The wards up that look safe are
Con (2) Bedwardine, St Peter Lab (2) Rainbow Hill, St John Green (1) Battenhall ( lost to a defection)
wards of interest
Cathedral. Con turned Lab defector Jabba Riaz defending. Con hold by 69 in 2019. Lab hold by 40 in 2021. Likely Labour hold
Claines. LD defending a by election gain. Con hold by 95 in 2019. LD gain by 70 in 2021. Anything could happen, but I’d start by predicting LD hold.
Gorse Hill. Con defending. Con gain from Lab in both 2018 and 2021. A lot depends on the ethnicity of the candidates here
Nunnery. Lab defending. Was a comfortable Conservative gain in 2021.
Warndon. Lab defending, Labour veteran Jo Hodges is up here. Was a shock Conservative gain by 12 votes this year. I would expect a Labour hold if Hodges stands
Warndon Parish North. Con defending over Lab. Won by 9% in 2018 and 13% in 2019. Likely Conservative hold.
Warndon Parish South: Con defending, The Greens came from nowhere to get within 34 votes in 2019. Green’s number one target,
Possible council make up
Con 17 (-1) Lab 10 (-1) Green 6 (+2) LD 2 (-)

The councillor up in Battenhall defected from the Greens to Conservatives, so that would be a Green re-gain if they took it. Thanks. I’d forgotten that! I’d be amazed if she stood in that ward and held. I’ve amended- in a very tight council, that does make a difference

There was an all party Con/ Lab/ Green administration for a few years until the Conservatives gained control in 2021. There was a Con leader and Lab dep leader,

Worcester Labour aren't happy: Backed by the Greens, the council had an all party cabinet from 2017-21 with a Con leader and a Lab deputy leader. The Conservatives and Greens seem to have wanted joint leaders, with the Lib Dems and !ab wanting the ‘ progressive alliance’. So they’ve agreed to move to joint leaders but then Lab didn’t want that so chose not to appoint a joint leader. Not sure where that leaves them constitutionally.
