Current council: Con 29, LD 7, Lab 3, HDC Independent Group 10, Independent 2, Vacancy 1.
The vacancy is the Con seat in St Neots East.
Since 2018 there have been nine byelections. Godmanchester & Hemingford Abbots - Aug 2019. LD hold by 13.5% )not much change). Alconbury - Dec 2019 - Con hold by 40% (not much change). St Ives East - Feb 2020 - Con hold by 11% over new Ind. Huntingdon North - May 2021 - Lab hold by 4.4% over Con (not much change) St Ives South - May 2021 - Con hold by 17% over LD (down from 23%). St Ives East - May 2021 - Con hold by 30% over Lab (up from 20%). Warboys - May 2021 - Con hold by 43% over LD. St Neots East - July 2021 - Ind gain by 9% over Green, Labour fell from first to fifth. Neither Ind nor Green had stood before. Huntingdon East - Nov 2021 - LD hold by 11% over Con.
Usual caveats that 2018 was a long time ago now.
Split wards: Sawtry - 1 Con, 1 Ind. C 969*, I 707*, 216. Only one Con candidate in 2018. St Neots East - 1 Ind, 1 Con. 2018 results probably not useful given big changes in 2021 byelection. St Neots Priory Park & Little Paxton - 2 Con, 1 Ind. I 1454*, C 956*, 875*, 642. LD 681, 586.
Other wards of interest: Buckden - Con win by 3.6% over LD in 2018. Huntingdon North - Lab win L 1011*, 923*, 843*, C 723, 665, 574.

There is a high turnover in Huntingdonshire with only 31 councillors seeking re-election, 20 standing down and 1 vacancy already.
21 of the 29 Conservatives are seeking re-election, but only 10 of the 22 opposition members are standing again, including all 3 Labour members and Independent Ben Pitt, who has moved from St. Neots East to St. Neots Priory Park and Little Paxton.
6 of the 10-strong HDC Independent Group and 5 of the 7 Lib Dems are not standing again, plus 1 Independent.
The full list of 20 councillors retiring is
Hamish Masson (Con) (Buckden) Darren Tysoe (Con) (Great Staughton) Lewis Besley (Con) (Holywell-cum-Needingworth) John Palmer (Con) (Ramsey) *Angie Dickinson (Con) (St. Ives South) Philip Gaskin (Con) (St. Neots Priory Park and Little Paxton) Graham Bull (Con) (Warboys) Michael Haines (Con) (Warboys)
Derek Giles (HDC Independent Group) (St. Neots Eatons) *Sandie Giles (HDC Independent Group) (St. Neots Eatons) Justin Cooper-Marsh (HDC Independent Group) (St. Neots Eynesbury) Barry Chapman (HDC Independent Group) (St. Neots Priory Park and Little Paxton) Shaun Burton (HDC Independent Group) (The Stukeleys) *Sally Smith (HDC Independent Group) (The Stukeleys)
John Morris (Lib Dem) (Brampton) Mike Grice (Lib Dem) (Godmanchester and Hemingford Abbots) *Sarah Wilson (Lib Dem) (Godmanchester and Hemingford Abbots) Mike Humphrey (Lib Dem) (Huntingdon East) Michael Shellens (Lib Dem) (Huntingdon East)
Dick Tuplin (Independent) (Sawtry)

A couple of observations: Speaking to a local Conservative councillor it looks like they are worried about losing their seat in St Neots East (Green & Ind to win the 2 seats) and one (at least) in Yaxley (to a strong Independent and outside chance for the Lib Dem who came second in the County Seat last year). On a positive for them they are calling for help in St Neots Eynesbury to overturn the 3 Indies.
In Yaxley I have had leaflets from Conservative (joint for all 3 candidates), the Independent and the Lib Dem. The Conservative & Independent leaflets were delivered by a delivery company, the Lib Dem was hand delivered by a Lib Dem supporter, nothing so far from Labour. I believe the Conservatives have also delivered a letter to all postal voters. In the local glossy free monthly magazine for the village there is a half page advert for the Independent (no sign of an imprint which I think is not really allowable under electoral law).
I think verification is being done on Thursday night with the count on Friday.

Might be opposition stirring, but panicky Tory letters going out here combined with the Tories on a long downwards trend in Cambridgeshire. The opposition think they may be on for significant gains and a real chance that 50 years of Tory majority control coming to an end here.

The opposition think they may be on for significant gains and a real chance that 50 years of Tory majority control coming to an end here. Maybe a rainbow coalition but it will need several Independents to gain seats to push the Tories below 27 seats and for them to work together. One former Indie seat in Sawtry is already an unopposed Tory gain. I think the Greens may well get a seat in St Neots East, the Independent in Yaxley is very likely to win. I am not sure where Labour or Lib Dems think they can make gains. I don't think the Lib Dem in Yaxley has done enough to push the Tories (only half the ward leafletted plus some sporadic canvassing).

Ryan Fuller (Con) has lost his seat to an Independent in St Ives West. I think he was executive leader and chair of cabinet.

The Tories have lost a seat in Yaxley to an Independent. The losing Tory was Mac Maguire who was Chairman of the Council. Some of their leaders certainly seem to be struggling.
