These elections could actually be quite interesting - though I think it's likely the Conservatives will hold on to their majority, there is a chance on a good night the Lib Dems could take it. The size of the council is being slimmed down from 34 to 28 hence the all-ups: www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/politics/gosport-councillors-pleased-by-proposed-changes-to-ward-boundaries-3281528 whereas normally these elections are done by halves. Since it's creation in 1973, the borough has been led by majorities for of all three parties - Labour (1973-1976), Liberal Democrats (1991-1997) and Conservatives (1976-1990; 2004-2006; 2010 - present) however recently has become a straight fight between the Lib Dems and the Conservatives. In the two most recent elections (the council normally elects by half's) the results (and changes with the previous elections) were: 2018: Lib Dem 8 (+4); Conservative 8 (-1); Labour 1 (-2); UKIP 0 (-1) 2021: Conservative 11 (+1); Lib Dem 6 (+1); Labour 0 (-2) Overall Council Composition: Conservative 19; Lib Dem 14; Labour 1 2021 was I believe the first election since the boroughs creation that Labour failed to win a single seat, reducing the party to holding just a single councillor so they will be fighting to at the very least hold onto their one remaining councillor.

The boundary changes here will most likely rescue Labour from wipeout and indeed could get them back up to 2 in Harbourside & Town (the renamed Town ward) which shrinks, jettisoning a more well off area.
In the rest of the town there are a couple of outright ward abolitions and an effective merger in Bridgemary, but on the whole I don't think the Lib Dem/Tory picture is much clearer (the two abolitions are one each for each party and the knock-ons probably won't make that much difference in the wards their bits are going into). There's certainly some scope for split wards and I don't think it's outside the realms of possibility that there could be a dead heat in seats with Labour (presuming they get both in H&T) as kingmakers. Outside that ward Labour are utterly dead now. For those who know Gosport, their disappearance in Bridgemary & Rowner is astonishing.

Gosport has the election agents notice up, if anyone has enough knowledge to work anything out from that.

The Lib Dem omissions are all entirely logical on the other hand.

I'll take your word for that - quite a few of the ward names are new to me, so until I've looked at a ward map I can't tell what some of them cover.

The Lib Dem omissions are all entirely logical on the other hand. H+T makes sense for Labour running 2 candidates- they have a chance of actually winning there. Grange is a funny ward- the turnout tends to be lousy, so maybe a small number of pledges can win through. The surprise is that's all they can do. From a distance, the Labour collapse in places like Bridgemary looks spectacular. What the hell went wrong there? Lib Dem omissions look rational, but they don't show confidence of getting to 15 seats. They either need some of those singletons to pull through, win somewhere mega surprising like Alverstoke or have absolutely everything else go to plan.

Given the drubbing the Tories have taken in Pompey, that wouldn't be a total surprise!

Is the surprise that the LDs took one or that the Tories took one? LDs winning a seat in Lee is, I believe, a sign of the end of days.
