From the West Leeds Dispatch
A Pudsey councillor who was investigated by his party over a post on social media has been reinstated following an investigation. As reported last month, Councillor Simon Seary, who’s represented the Pudsey ward on Leeds City Council since 2018, had been temporarily suspended by the council’s opposition Tory group. It follows a post on Cllr Seary’s public Facebook page on November 20, which apparently took aim at his Pudsey ward colleague and fellow Conservative, Councillor Trish Smith. The misconduct investigation has now concluded, with Cllr Seary reprimanded for the post. In a statement this afternoon, Leeds Conservative party whip Cllr Dan Cohen, confirmed: "Cllr Seary continues to be a member of the group."

I am rather impressed by Cllr Corkery's seeming, albeit sad, acceotance that his term is coming to an end with no threat of standing as an independent. Kudos.

Also disgraceful is all the Labour members claiming it's disgraceful but and refusing since decades to curtail of the power of unelected party employees and heavily corrupted NEC.

I didn't realise you could be suspended from a CLP but not the national party

He's embedded in the Union movement locally which likely tempers his reaction somewhat. But all the signs are that this is going to run and run, not least due to the silence from the MP so far, not least because the councillor is his ex-ward colleague.

Lee Harpin (who usually gets immediate leaks from Labour First NEC members) reports that Cal Corkery has been expelled from Labour Party.

it is now known that Corkery shared a platform with Chris Williamson. That's a clear expulsionable offence. The report in the paper failed to mention this.

He's just confirmed his expulsion on Facebook. Not, he says, for platforming with Chris Williamson MP MP but for liking and sharing a post on Facebook from a then not proscribed, but now proscribed group in 2016. But whatever, it's an interesting decision.

he says, yes. But frankly I don't believe him. I see this kind of thing more often than I've seen Labour victories in East Ham.

If that is the only occasion, as I said elsewhere, it's a totally different matter & should or would not be a disciplinary matter.
