Some of these guys have nothing to lose. They'll probably not stand again. Gary will definitely have wanted stand again though and it be a real shame if Julie doesn't. They've both got a bit of time before the end of their term though. Plenty of chance to be readmitted

I presume that the controversial element of the Local Plan it the halting site for showpeople rather than the light industrial unit?

I presume that the controversial element of the Local Plan it the halting site for showpeople rather than the light industrial unit? www.thestar.co.uk/news/politics/sheffield-council-approves-long-awaited-local-plan-in-heated-town-hall-meeting-4284869Always a difficult issue in planning terms. Few councillors volunteer for a site in their ward but the absence of provision can cause other problems. There are some easy votes to be gained by opposing it (and I note that the Lib Dems seem to have sought no provision). I’d assume that the Labour councillors largely sit for nearby areas? These sites can be well-run and cause no problems whatever. There were 2 in South Derbyshire where that generally could be said.

I presume that the controversial element of the Local Plan it the halting site for showpeople rather than the light industrial unit? showpeople? The aristocracy of the UK Romani. They are traditionally the fair, circus and carnival owners, and who are more likely to be settled than any other part of the Romani, partially because they own and run so many static fairs etc even today. In that latter capacity, I'm a former employee.

She's a councillor in Stocksbridge which is North of Sheffield. In the site is south of Sheffield. Gary and Tony are councillors in Shiregreen & Brightside and Southey respectively which are in the north of the city. Mr Fox is in Manor which is central. The rest are south but even then not that close

Referenced in the statement the suspended councillors put out. A sub-category of travellers. But generally a lower risk of the sort of anti-social behaviour generally associated (accurately or otherwise) with travellers.

Was the site perhaps not wanted by the potential users? That can be an issue - the sites chosen can be fairly unpleasant.

The "Save Springwell Field" campaigners have a website, where they claim they are not NIMBYs. On the other side, here is the "Now Then" article which is more critical of those opposing the allocation. Regarding which wards the Labour rebels represent, Beighton ward has no Labour councillors, but two of them do represent the neighbouring Birley ward. I suspect the Labour rebellion is more to do with Labour factionalism (local, not national) than the rights and wrongs of the case, though.

It looks lovely from the photos From a brief overview of the Star coverage, I can agree with one point: the traffic levels there are atrocious. Often when I've gone from Sheffield towards Mosborough-ish I've found it easier to fight my way down through Intake than go along the A57/B6053. When working at Crystal Peaks Medical Centre a couple of years ago it would take me a good 40 minutes to get from there to the A57 roundabout. Any use of the land in that corner between the A57-east and B6053-south must have the B6053 leg upgraded to at least S4, ideally D2+2.
