Because, due to an embarrassing mistake by the SNP, they mixed up calling it, at the same time as their Westminster leader lauding how they had saved money by calling it to coincide with the Holyrood elections whilst claiming the Tories would cost taxpayers ten ofthousands of pounds by calling a byelection for Douglas Ross's seat later (even though he has no plans to quit Westminster). Has he actually apologised? Haha did he actually do that? What an absolute tool. www.heraldscotland.com/news/19188276.snp-leave-taxpayers-facing-175-000-bill-byelection/

Sounds like the returning officer would have avoided Holyrood polling day whatever they had done.

Just noticed that the Liberal Democrat vote of 220 recorded in this by-election is the lowest ever for a Liberal/Liberal Democrat candidate, and 1% is the second lowest percentage for a Liberal/Liberal Democrat candidate in a parliamentary by-election since universal suffrage began.

Not an area with any historical strength for them, coupled with the focus on tactical voting in Scottish seats and usual by-election turnouts it’s not hugely surprising

Is that lowest ever in a by-election, or lowest ever in any parliamentary election?

I presume the "lowest" in this context is still Rhondda at the 2017 GE?

I presume the "lowest" in this context is still Rhondda at the 2017 GE? Lowest vote share, yes, at 0.8%, and with just 277 votes.
