Before they made the more recent big inroads into Glasgow and the surrounding areas the SNP’s main strength was in traditional Tory areas Yes, not so long ago, Moray, Banff and Galloway were 3 of the SNP's 6 Westminster seats. Now they are 3 of the Scottish Tories' 6 Westminster seats. The seats probably went SNP on tactical vote grounds in reaction to the Tory Party in Government. Anti-establishment? Now the SNP have become the establishment in Scotland. Also the SNP look much less like Tartan Tories than the did in the 1980s?

Yes, the latter factor is significant IMO. And this became further apparent more recently when their previous NE based leader was replaced by a Glaswegian.

Free: the 'Aberdeen Nine' Right decision eventually taken Incidental to this, I was thinking yesterday of doing another 'historical' series about expelled councillors. A cursory look through the archives showed that Aberdeen featured more often than any other authority in the country, stretching all through the twentieth century.

No need to fret about it. I only have a hazy idea what you're all on about.

Recent SNP to Alba convert Chris McEleny, the general secretary of Alba, lifted and charged for banging door, trying to get into tenement and shouting and bawling then unarrested and uncharged. Haven't a clue what happened really but it happened, or not

Haven't a clue what happened really but it happened, or not I initially read that as "banging donor", which would have had a rather different meaning.

Haven't a clue what happened really but it happened, or not Given the infancy of Alba, I would call the use of "Recent" an example of grammatical redundancy. (P.S. I am on call and bored.)

McEleny ran for the SNP deputy leadership on a bit of a UDI platform if I remember right?

Councillor Angela Doran Timson, elected as Labour for the Broxburn, Uphall and Winchburgh ward on West Lothian Council, has defected to the Conservatives. She married our group leader on that council, so the defection isn't necessarily that surprising.

The Labour Party under Sarwar has clearly been stronger on the Union than his predecessors, under whom she was elected, so a lot of tosh. I hope it makes her home a happier place.

The fundamental constitutional battle still hasn't abated in Labour. The presence of independence light MSP's has angered quite a few unionists. With us being unequivocally in favour of the union, come hell or high water, that is attractive. Yes, her marriage will have a lot to do with it, as I said, but we shouldn't underestimate Labour's constitutional travails, which are still in real danger of killing that party as an even half way significant force in Scottish politics.
