Gwinnett county sums up the change . In 40 years its gained nearly 800k in pop and has gone from over 90% Non-Hispanic White to 32.45% in 2020. Yes. Henry County also shows the pattern of an Atlanta suburban county turning majority-minority this century. The post-civil war Great Migration of African Americans to the North from the South in the Jim Crow era seems to have gone into reverse. This partly explains Biden winning Georgia while losing Ohio. |

Then House Minority Whip Newt Gingrich scraped by in 1990. He was lucky - Bernie's predecessor in Congress for Vermont, Peter Smith, told me Republicans elected Gingrich Minority Whip by 1 vote (Smith voted for Ed Rell Madigan).

Its reduced contribution to the statewide total votes (along with suburban Henrico County outside Richmond and Richmond itself) helps explain Reps winning statewide in Virginia for the first time since 2009
