Wasn't Tony Hancock brought up in Bournemouth? Tony Blackburn certainly was! I think we already have a seat by that name...

Tower Hamlets - Ripper (that would work in the Aussie sense as well) Along the same lines: Hornsey and Wood Green - Nilsen Stalybridge and Hyde - Shipman Oldham East and Saddleworth - Brady Hammersmith - Roberts Kensington - Christie Maldon - Bamber Lanark and Hamilton East - Manuel Not that I recommend this system.

East Ham could be Boleyn and send the historians into a frenzy of arguments.
West Ham could be Lister.

Can we rename Moray to "Macbeth" ? That should cause some amusement as the superstitious struggle to come up with an alternative. "I being the returning officer and stage manager for the Scottish Play". Is this a ballot I see before me? Out! Out! Damned member. And not all the perfumes of Arabia can staunch this vote loss. When shall we three agents meet again? 'Eye of Gingrich and toe of Macron'

Moore was a Barking lad so maybe there? In Moore's time West Ham played in what's now the East Ham constituency.

Yeah, the Australians donβt always go with birth, for example Whitlam is in NSW but the man himself was born and raised in Victoria. I just think the name and Mooreβs connection with the club make it the most obvious.

What could possibly go wrong... I would've thought that Arfon would be more appropriate for Lloyd-George.

The thing is that if this system had been used in the UK for long enough there'd probably be a Bristol seat called Colston. Exactly. In Australia several divisions were renamed in 2019 because of their namesakes' colonialist, racist past (e.g. the division of Batman was renamed Cooper) They renamed the best example of the Australian naming system?
I'd call them Jokers, but that might be a bit Two-Faced.

Wansbeck would definitely be Charlton, but which one? What a brilliant idea! In a similar vein, we could have: Belfast South β Bradford, after the Rev Robert Bradford Lincoln β Carlisle, after Kenneth Carlisle Mid Ulsterβ Chichester, after the Chichester family of Moyola Park Cambridge β Coventry, after Francis Coventry Epsom and Ewell β Derby, after the horse race Chorley β Dover, after Den Dover North East Fife β Durham, after Admiral Sir Philip Durham Sittingbourne and Sheppey β Hull, after Rod Hull

In a similar vein, we could have: Belfast South β Bradford, after the Rev Robert Bradford Doubt you'll get away with naming a constituency after a shady far right politician. May as well call Belfast West "Sands" or "Adams" if going down that route. For South, could go with the people's champion: Higgins, but less controversial would be either Thomson or Kelvin for Baron Kelvin. North can be "Carson." Whether Frank or Edward can be left deliberately ambiguous to annoy everyone. If you wanted to annoy nationalists there more than calling it after Edward Carson, Herzog for the former Israeli president will do. East has many possibles. Bell for the physicist, Lewis for the writer, Blanchflower if going for a footballer (shamefully, the local airport is already named after a wife beating alco)

Tower Hamlets - Ripper (that would work in the Aussie sense as well) Shipley has a good claim to that as well. Maybe Ripper North and Ripper South?

Suffolk Coastal - Britten ("The honourable member for Britten"...tee hee) Ipswich - Wolsey South Suffolk - Constable Central Suffolk & North Ipswich - St Edmund (because of the Hoxne connection, and to piss off Bury St Edmunds ) Great Yarmouth - Falstaff Maidenhead - Grahame (Cookham being closely associated with The Wind in the Willows) Chelmsford - Marconi
