The Stockport/Heatons effect? Is Brinnington the only truly deprived area in the Stockport borough? Lancashire Hill is worse than Brinny, but not as isolated. New to me! Any idea why it's called that, when it used to be in Cheshire?

A prediction- Reddish will be talked off as gentrified within twenty years. Denton won't. The Stockport/Heatons effect? Is Brinnington the only truly deprived area in the Stockport borough? Not while the Adswood (Stockport side) is around. Gorsey Bank has been demolished many years back, otherwise it would have been on its own. Parts of Edgeley were very poor when I lived in Cheadle Hulme. My family used to get off-ration meat from a butcher in Edgeley in the early 1950s as he couldn’t sell his quota due to local poverty.

This constituency is abolished though the number of constituencies in Greater Manchester remains unchanged. Audenshaw and Dukinfield in the North are lost to Ashton and Reddish in the South to Stockport. This leaves just 26,000 voters in the three Denton wards which are linked with Levenshulme, Longsight and Gorton from Manchester Gorton and Burnage from Withington. The greatest number of voters come from Manchester Gorton so this is really the succesor to that seat (the new Manchester Rusholme is too arguably). This seat is similar to the 1955-1983 version of Manchester Gorton and the 1885-1918 Gorton seat. In this case, despite the majority of electors being within Manchester the Manchester prefix is dropped and the seat will be called 'Gorton & Denton' 2019 Notional result Lab | 31992 | 67.4% | Con | 8437 | 17.8% | LD | 2966 | 6.3% | BxP | 2590 | 5.5% | Grn | 1326 | 2.8% | Oth | 131 | 0.3% | | | | Majority | 23555 | 49.7% |
