Still Holts, useless pub. Not one I frequent.
The last time I went to Cheadle Hulme it looked to have changed beyond recognition. It used to be a very old fashioned pub that was frequented by amateur theatrical types, left-wing politicos, and model railway enthusiasts with definite if limited overlap between the three groups.
The Landlord was called John Holt (no relation) was a rather miserable individual but kept a good pint, never easy with Holts. One time the word got out that Paula Wilcox was in the pub with the theatrical crowd. The Landlady, a bit worse for the wear, came into the room with a great Spoonerism: 'Where's this Waula Pilcox then?"
