Anybody know how Wood is doing in this seat without her national profile? No idea, I just came here to post “hopefully this will be a Labour Gain”.

Amazingly Labour haven't even started selecting a candidate here!

She is an assiduous constituency member, that counts for quite a bit... and I see that Leighton Andrew's application to rejoin Labour has been rejected (he failed re renew his subs and voted Green)

In 2019, Plaid fell from second to third and their vote fell by 8.6%. In the 2015 GE, Plaid got 8,500 votes and in December they struggled to get just over the 4,000 line.
I think Plaid here relies on having a far superior ground game to Labour. It was obviously difficult to do in a later winter election when nobody was sure exactly when it'd happen.
But it's not exactly a good omen for Wood.

Plaid and Wood will probably be content enough if this continues: Amazingly Labour haven't even started selecting a candidate here! How will this develop? Are there arrangements in place for selection in the time of corona or is it going to have to wait until mass meetings can be held?

At May meeting of Welsh Labour Executive Committee they decided to have an all postal ballot for the selection here.

I think Plaid here relies on having a far superior ground game to Labour. It was obviously difficult to do in a later winter election when nobody was sure exactly when it'd happen. But it's not exactly a good omen for Wood. While a good ground game will matter, the combination of being a devolved body and Leanne Wood’s very large personal vote will account for most of the difference between the Westminster and Assembly results. It should be remembered that after their massive surge here in 2016, Plaid saw a noticeable decline in their vote share, from a rather low base, at the 2017 general election. Therefore, as long as she remains locally popular and and Plaid are doing alright in national polls, Wood should be on course for re-election.
