I'm tentatively going with 'Conservative gain.'

It's almost too funny to contemplate that Jones thinks that she has the remotest chance of winning anything as an independent candidate rather than being a nonentity on an established parties regional list which is how she got into the Assembly with UKIP in the first place. No doubt she's going to learn an expensive lesson if she carries her candidacy through as an independent as opposed to hitching a lift with an established party.

Is there a pay off if you're a sitting AM and you lose?

Lets see what if anything she does to campaign, I'd hazard a guess no freepost etc.

Never underestimate the the depths of the lack of political and public awareness of Caroline Jones. I'd put money on the fact that she thinks that she's a respected almost revered politician amongst the general public. However I'm sure that you're right about the attraction of a payoff when reality sinks home if as you say there is a payoff for standing again and being defeated.

I've asked you this before I'm sure - is there any Assembly/Senedd Member you have even a slightly positive opinion of?

Not that I can think of.
But then I'm in the unfortunate position of having observed most of them during their political careers and forming an opinion on their words and actions during that time. I'm not entirely sure why I should be badgered into proclaiming that a representative down the Bay of Plenty is a competent legislator in order to create an impression that by doing so means that my criticisms and observations of others are more valid than otherwise, if by doing so I am giving an false endorsement of someone that I think is hopeless.
There's bound to be a couple of back bench non entities that I've barely noticed who I haven't come to an opinion on yet.
Of course I do have even more first hand knowledge of Mr Reckless, Carolyn Jones and co with which to come to an even more accurate conclusion in regards to their abilities, motives and ambitions.

Admittedly slim pickings, but I think she comes over better than most of her former UKIP compatriots.... though jumping parties multiple times will not help her in most eyes.

The Conservative candidate is Suzy Davies:
