He's one of those people where you look at him and think 'how the hell did you get elected?!'

He's one of those people where you look at him and think 'how the hell did you get elected?!' My English friends always get a good laugh when I tell them that thereβs a young earth creationist in Holyrood. I think the Nats will be more than happy to get rid of him.

Apparently a "Catalan Activist" is the one challenging Mason. π
Don't we have enough parochial nationalists here without importing more?π

Thanks for that. I don't now what she thinks she can do from our regional parliament for Catalan Independence. My thoughts are with the people of Shettleston who are, yet again, going to have a crap MSP either way.

Quite a few very very last minute announcements and constituency switches which will serve as a nice starter for the list selections bunfight.

Labour have selected list MSP Pauline McNeill She was trying selection for Clydebank and Milngavie but she has now switched her interest to Shettleston. Thanks for that. Servera moved to Glasgow in 2017. She is not the only challenger to Mason. There is also Katy Loudon, a South Lanarkshire Cllr

Bloody hell, what characters you get in the East End. There is one other candidate - a councillor from Cambuslang - in the running who seems fairly normal compared to Mason and Servera-Clavell. It would be nice for this area to have a low-key representative for once.

SNP selection candidates:
John Mason (sitting MSP for the area since 2011, famously won the 2008 Glasgow East by-election) Katy Loudon (Cambuslang East councillor on South Lanarkshire Council since 2017) Valentina Servera Clavell (Catalan activist, doing some form of journalism at Glasgow Caledonian, originally planned to stand for Clydebank and Milngavie but changed to here, her actual branch, last minute)

I think you'll find John Mason is now famous for things other than winning the Glasgow East byelection.

Councillor Thomas Kerr selected for us. I actually rate Kerr quite highly. Heβs by far the most impressive of the Glasgow Tory councillors and I would hope heβs placed second on the regional list. Itβs not out of the question that the Tory vote may increase a little bit here next year - Shettleston and Bailleston wards have proven areas of relative strength for them in recent years (God it still feels weird to type that).

The National seems obsessed with the Catalan nationalists. They're always running articles involving Clara Ponsati. What's the betting they give loads of publicity to this one as well.
