Aileen Campbell is retiring
Màiri McAllan (SpAd to Sturgeon) is the only applicant for SNP selection. She just needs to pass a confirmation ballot to become the new candidate

I am surprised that there was only one applicant for the SNP selection; this Scottish Parliament constituency is SNP held and not exactly marginal!

Does anyone know why she's stepping down? She's not very old and she's also a cabinet member so presumably has a reasonable career ahead of her. I suspect the SNP leadership manage this sort of thing fairly well. They seem to have very few seats that are heavily contested.

She's not very old and she's also a cabinet member so presumably has a reasonable career ahead of her. to achieve "a better work-life balance" She said: “I have got married and have been blessed with two beautiful boys, who are growing up fast. Indeed, in 2014 I became the first Scottish Minister to take maternity leave. “My husband and I are very fortunate - we have managed to find ways for me to do my job and have a family at the same time, with Fraser taking on most of the day-to-day parenting. “But there is no getting away from the fact that the job – while immensely rewarding - is demanding in terms of pressure and time. I hope in future I can spend a little more time with my boys at home.”

Is there any breakdown of voting in the 2017 and 2019 general elections which would give a notional Tory vote for this seat? Obviously based on the 2016 Holyrood result it looks safe, however appreciate it overlaps with Mundell’s constituency and areas of South Lanarkshire with unionist leaning.

I think it probably voted SNP last year but would certainly have been carried by the Conservatives in 2017.
