Gil Paterson has announced that he is retiring at the election. He was one of the few remaining members of the 99 club (although he did miss the 2003 parliament) and had represented this constituency since 2011.
This seat is pretty much safe for the SNP and the only thing of note I suppose is that SNP internal rules mean that the candidate selection will now proceed on the basis of an AWS.

SNP selection candidates (AWS):
Roza Salih (one of the Glasgow Girls, candidate for Garscadden/Scotstounhill on Glasgow City Council in 2017, works for Chris Stephens) Kate Waddell (candidate for Milngavie on East Dunbartonshire Council in 2017, background in housing development) Debra Torrance (has MS, podcaster for Ungagged) Marie McNair (Clydebank Waterfront councillor since 2007, prior to that Barloan/Overtoun since 2003 on West Dunbartonshire Council, originally Labour until 2008, held her seat as an Independent in 2012 then went SNP in 2016) Anne McTaggart (former Labour MSP for Glasgow 2011-16, subsequently relegated to 12th on the list in 2016, Drumchapel and Anniesland councillor on Glasgow City Council from 2017, defected from Labour to the SNP in November 2019)

This is probably a safe SNP seat no matter what, but I do hope the Nats aren't foolish enough to select Anne McTaggart. She really personified the worst of Scottish Labour during her time as an MSP and councillor.

Not that I know much about her, but I do recall hearing that she was on Scottish Labour’s radar as an underperforming list MSP. The cynic in me did have to wonder if her defection was simply a jump to the winning side?

I remember seeing her behind Johann Lamont in Parliament back in the day. I never saw her speak or do anything. You guys are right, this is about a lazy careerist looking for an easy ride.

She wasn't wrong when she said Glasgow Labour hadn't done anything positive for a long time, but it's a bit rich coming from someone who was quite clearly going through the motions for the best part of a decade. Aside from her endless list of dodgy expenses claims, there were some pretty sleazy allegations made against her during her first stint as a councillor.
