We're about 6 and a half thousand votes behind here, I think we could run the SNP reasonably close. I'm not sure we could pick it up at this stage, but across what used to be our traditional heartlands we will almost certainly cement our presence.

Conservative candidate is Cllr Mark Findlater, ex squaddie, tech sort of guy and God Botherer. I would have no qualms about voting for him.
Scottish Conservative Party consists of 25% Lib Dems who hate Brexit, hate Boris, believe in big government, ideally officer led. They run everything 50% of Loyal Tories, who agree privately that the first group need to be got rid of. However now is not the time. Now is never the time. 25% of right wing fiscal Conservatives who thought we had won the election. Leaving the party by the day.
Mark is in the middle group

Aberdeenshire East is another seat where the Tories may do well. There's also Moray.

The elephant in the room is of course that Banff & Buchan was the only Scottish seat to record a swing to the Conservatives in 2019. As the name suggests this constituency is predominantly coastal, and therefore, presumably includes the most leave inclined parts of that constituency, including a good brexity chunk of the Moray constituency.
Add into the mix Jackson Carlaw's apparent embrace of Brexit, Boris's apparent unwillingness to compromise on fisheries and a longstanding incumbent retiring, and I think this could possibly be the most interesting constituency to watch in the Scottish Parliament election.

All of that is true. SNP still in emotional turmoil over Salmond BTW. Some of the older ones devoted to him. Younger ones include the usual suspects of every fashionable woke opinion going.
It will be fun to see the sack from the outside and imagine the ferrets.

If the UK leaves the Common Fisheries Policy before next May, Banffshire may be a bright spot for the Scottish Tories.
In the wider North East, results will be impacted by the Covid oil shock along with 14 years of SNP rule at Holyrood and 11 years of Tory rule at Westminster.
What happens to oil prices is particularly important to Aberdeen South & North Kincardine, Aberdeenshire East and Aberdeenshire West.

Cllr Karen Adam (Mid Formartine ward on Aberdeenshire Council, which boogieeck may want to correct me on but I don't believe is in the constituency boundaries) confirmed as the sole candidate for the SNP here. Given that this has been announced a week after the other sole candidates were confirmed means someone was vetted out or withdrew.

Daughter of the late Brian Adam MSP, nice lady whose intellectual prowess is a powder she has kept dry. Sits next to me in Council chamber.
Karen v Findlater guarantees us a council by-election next June

No. He employs a lot of people and makes a lot of money. He felt he owed those people his loyalty and its hard to justify being disloyal to them when the outcome if you win, is that you will decimate your income for five years and then get maybe booted out. That and realizing that the Conservatives were appalling and that at certain aspects of the job, he was not quite good enough
David Duguid is actually a better MP than Jimmy would have been. But Jimmy is still better company and creates more wealth for the community.
