Conservative hold with a slightly increased majority on the more favourable Holyrood boundaries.

Conservative hold with a slightly increased majority on the more favourable Holyrood boundaries. We can hope.

Alex Burnett, sitting MSP unsurprisingly reselected unopposed for Conservatives, the bit I found disturbing is that the re-selections began in 2018.
whats all that about?

Paging boogieeck - does Mike Rumbles still have any sort of following locally? If he doesn't stand again (which there must be a fair chance of) I would've thought that Burnett would be the primary beneficiary.

I don’t think he does and suspect he will stand down and if he does not will be ousted and if not will lose number one slot in the list
Jonathon Waddell their Westminster PPC May be one to watch
I don’t think Burnett will need the help I think he will be safe

Many were incredulous that Rumbles persuaded the local party to de facto deselect the well respected sitting list MSP Alison McInnes in 2016, effectively accepting his grievance for having been beneath her when losing his constituency seat in 2011. Notable that many of the adults in the room such as Sir Malcolm Bruce had retired by that time, arguably it wasn’t an upgrade in intellect on the party benches.

I know them both fairly well and Ok, I would not vote for either but ......
The problem with Rumbles is not and never was his intellect. In his first term he was a hard-working MSP, a bruiser, who saw himself as a future party leader. He was an effective debater, spoiler and wrecker. His constituency casework was well handled. This time out, he is picking up his salary and plumping up his retirement pot.
Alison is a nice lady. Not impressive in a debate, good in committee in a different way from Rumbles, ticks some boxes on sex, but the number of people saying how respected she was when she was removed was a lot higher than before she was. Her removal was clear evidence that she was not a competent political operator.

Fergus Mutch, last seen in 2019 for the equivalent Westminster seat, is seeking the SNP nomination here.
