I assume the two Green peers communicate with each other! You assume correctly. Jenny and Natalie are very much working as a team,

Baroness (Diana) Maddock died last night. Diana was a long-time friend and colleague from her days as leader of the Liberals on Southampton Council in the 1980s. She won the Christchurch by-election in 1993 and joined the Lords after she lost her seat at the General Election and married Alan Beith (Berwick on Tweed MP) in 2001 and was more recently a Councillor in Northumberland. She has played a big part in organising our party in the Lords. Not a well-known figure outside her local stamping grounds but a genuine Liberal and a real loss to the party.

Certainly a name I'm familiar with but I did live for years in the next constituency over. RIP.

I wonder how many people will think that's (the late) David Frost and take a few seconds to realise.

Lord Andrew Feldman (a member of the blue team and former Conservative Party chair) has taken leave of absence. Richard Luce, a crossbencher and former governor of Gibraltar, has resigned.

Ah yes, it appears the current Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel become a crossbencher (rather than a Conservative) once he took over from Lord Luce in 2006.

Nowadays he would be non-affiliated - the Crossbenches have got a bit stiffy about who they let in.
Labour peer Lord Morris of Handsworth is to retire on 21st July. This is Bill Morris, one-time Gen Sec of the T & G, and a very nice man. It's sad that he is going but I don't think his health has been wonderful.

Another good person is going. Joan Hanham (Bness Hanham) has given notice of retirement on 22nd July. Joan has not been well of late. She was leader of Kensington and Chelsea London Borough (or Royal Borough if you insist) before becoming a Conservative peer. She was an excellent local government minister during the Coalition when we had a number of enjoyable and successful joint plots!

Bill Morris has now gone, Joan Hannam goes tomorrow.
Lord Williams of Oystermouth will retire on 31st August. This is Crossbencher Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury.

Possibly not particularly incentivised, according to this he’s not voted since 2018, but I assume he’s done something in the interim to prevent his disqualification www.publicwhip.org.uk/mp.php?id=uk.org.publicwhip/member/101156&showall=yes#divisions.
