Also, since when has Camden been a "Royal" Borough? Oops! Google has 12 hits for me for “Royal Borough of Camden”, two of which are Hansard for Baroness Bennett’s introduction.

I am surprised given that they only served five and four years in Parliament respectively (then again, [Henry] Byron Davies became Lord Davies despite only being an MP for two years).

Nicol Stephen was only an MP for about 5 months (although presumably his peerage was more for his work in the Scottish Parliament)

I can't recall if it was a Ruth Davidson situation where he said he wouldn't take the ermine until he left Holyrood.

again, [Henry] Byron Davies became Lord Davies despite only being an MP for two years). He was also a Welsh Assembly Member for four years and was serving as Chairman of the Welsh Tories. Even though his peerage was for political services he had 30+ years in the Met under his belt which is no bad thing to have in the Lords.

Jenny Randerson who was a Lib Dem AM in Wales from 1999-2011 also got a peerage around the same time as Nicol, although obviously served a lot longer in the devolved administration.

Stephen was a junior minister from the start and held office, including as deputy first minister until 2007 whereas Randerson didn't join the administration until the first Welsh coalition in 2000 and left in 2003 when Labour gained a majority. She was a (Westminster) junior minister under the Coalition.

Sorry I wasn’t referring to them being Ministers simply as serving as a MSP/AM from 1999 until the dissolution of their parliament/assembly in 2011.

What is the relevance of Nicol Stephen to this thread? (I had a very enjoyable two days at his by-election).

What is the relevance of Nicol Stephen to this thread? (I had a very enjoyable two days at his by-election). Originally it was people who were appointed Peers after a short period in the HoC then it became people who were appointed Peers whilst simultaneously serving as a MSP/AM. Give it a couple of posts and your own duel mandate might pop up!

Not at dawn anymore, BT Sport have bought the rights, the ring walk onto College Green is now in prime time to compete with Bake Off...

I'd forgotten that he was an MP in the 70s. One of those snippets of information one hears once and then struggles to recall, despite it being on the tip of your tongue.

After two debates on Covid regs in the Lords yesterday afternoon I spent over three hours in the evening at a full Pendle Council Meeting! We had to have a few tedious votes on MS Teams but there were no virtual shooting events. Still we won all the votes. A bit like the House of Lords really. Now back to more Covid regs in an hour or so. Funny life. (Nicol got his peerage after his career at Holyrood of course when he was Deputy First Minister for a while).
